I have 4+ years of teaching experience, both with teaching high school and college level students. I taught Writing and Rhetoric at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) from August 2018 to December of 2020, with my classes consisting of hybrid forms, fully online forms, and special international sections. In June of 2022, I was diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive/impulsive type) and immediately dove into research about Executive Functioning and ways to overcome my symptoms. I now share what I have learned and my stories of success with my students as an Executive Functioning coach here on VT. Over the years, I have worked with a large range of students, from students who are differently abled to students learning English as a second language. I have worked with students from all walks of life and view all students as equally worthy of education and support, even if they haven't received that support in the past. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I believe every student is capable of learning, no matter what they have been told in the past or what their past experiences have been like. I am dedicated to each and every student I work with, and desire to not only share my love of teaching with others, but to get to know each student as an individual. I believe in helping students come to their own conclusions about their work. I never tell a student what to do, but rather give suggestions on how their work can be improved. I work with each student individually to determine the need area and focus there. My lessons are student driven - if you would rather not work on a particular area, that's perfectly ok! I am here to help you with whatever you're struggling with.

I am an educator passionate about helping all learners make progress on their reading and math skills! While I have experience working with all elementary aged students, my speciality is working with elementary students with special needs. I taught special education to lower and upper elementary students for 8 years, focusing on foundational literacy and math skills. I graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2015 with a BA in Elementary Education. In 2020, I received my Masters in Special Education with a focus on mild to moderate disabilities from Johns Hopkins University. My extensive training and experience has helped me develop best practices and strategies that best meet each student's learning style and support their academic growth!

I am a first-year student at Wellesley College studying Neuroscience. I'm eager to help students build confidence in subjects that can feel overwhelming at first. I tutor biology, chemistry, introductory neuroscience, and writing. My approach is patient, collaborative, and focused on breaking ideas down into simple, logical steps. I try to create an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and figuring things out at their own pace. Outside academics, I row on the Wellesley crew team, which has taught me a lot about discipline, communication, and supporting the people around me. The most profound learning happens when students connect classroom theory to real-world impact. I make this connection tangible. Having worked in displacement crises firsthand in Canada, with lived experience in 30+ countries, I transform abstract concepts into concrete understanding. My academic journey includes a Master of Arts in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration with Distinction from the University of London, a Public Policy Analysis Certificate from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Applied Science, with a Minor in Women's Studies from Simon Fraser University. Currently, I serve in communications and engagement for a regional government. I manage emergency preparedness initiatives and government to government relations. My professional background spans international law, refugee protection, internal displacement policy, and crisis communications. This includes experience as an Information Officer in Emergency Operations Centers where every word matters. I specialize in tutoring international law, human rights, forced migration studies, gender and women's studies, policy analysis, academic writing, and professional communications. My favourite subjects? International refugee and displacement law, Indigenous sovereignty, and feminist theory. These fields ignite passion. They allow students to engage with pressing global challenges while developing frameworks for creating positive change. I particularly enjoy helping graduate students refine their research methodologies and undergraduate students discover their voice. Critical analysis. Ethical reasoning. Practical application. These drive my teaching philosophy. I bring firsthand field experience to theoretical concepts, whether discussing UNHCR operations, analyzing state sovereignty and externalization practices, or examining how gender intersects with displacement. As a published writer and professional editor, I excel at helping students craft compelling arguments. Academic papers, policy briefs, and professional communications all require precision and persuasion. My teaching is a living expression. Drawing from diverse experiences like developing international curriculum and facilitating wellness programs worldwide, I create inclusive learning environments that respect all perspectives and learning styles. K-12 to adult professionals. This range enables me to make complex material accessible while maintaining rigorous academic standards. I strive to prepare students not just for exams but for meaningful, engaged, critical thinking - every day. When I'm not tutoring, I find balance through daily meditation and yoga practices cultivated from a lifetime of study, practice, and travels throughout Asia and Latin America. I'm always reading something, magical realism to lived experience refugee narratives, and love editing papers and policies. Nature is my sanctuary, whether running in forests, practicing yoga outdoors, or swimming in the ocean. My playlists include everything from world music to slow produced house. I'm also a political podcast junkie, listening to analysis on global affairs and human rights on the regular. These passions keep me curious and bring fresh energy to every tutoring session.
As a dedicated educator with a Master's degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville, I have over 28 years of experience in both tutoring and classroom teaching. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment that fosters confidence and curiosity, utilizing personalized strategies that cater to each student's unique strengths. Currently, I am a certified special education administrator , and my ongoing commitment to professional growth drives me to continually adapt my methods to better engage and inspire my students. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading and exploring new educational resources, which further enrich my approach to tutoring. Helping students grow into confident, independent thinkers is one of the most rewarding parts of my professional life. I'm passionate about education because I believe it's a powerful force for unlocking opportunity and creating long-term impactboth for individuals and for communities. Over the years, I've worked with learners at many levels, from high school students preparing for college to graduate-level professionals deepening their technical expertise. My experience spans academic settings, corporate environments, and competitive learning platforms where I've guided students in mastering complex topics and building real-world skills. I hold a master's degree in data science and have taught a range of subjects including Python programming, machine learning, data analysis, AI, statistics, and project management. I especially enjoy tutoring in algorithmic thinking and problem-solving because these skills not only build technical fluency, but also empower students to approach challenges with clarity and creativity. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive, collaborative learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and think critically. I adapt my tutoring style to the needs of each learner, combining structure with flexibility and always tying concepts back to practical applications.
I am a graduate of Grand Canyon University where I obtained my Master's Degree in Education Administration/School Leadership. I have been in education for 23 years and have tutored students throughout these years. My background is teaching students with disabilities. I also work with adults teaching ESOL during the evening/night hours. I enjoy teaching students reading strategies because reading is a fundamental skill that everyone must have and many students struggle in this area. I also enjoy teaching students test taking strategies. Students have to take many test and assessments therefore they need to be taught the proper strategies to use when taking test. During my leisure time, I enjoy listening to music, nice walks in the park, reading or listening to an audio book and spending time with my family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have experience supporting learners with a wide range of differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia, processing disorders, and autism spectrum differences. Tutors work with students across all grade levels and can adapt instruction to address specific learning profiles, whether that means using multi-sensory reading approaches, breaking tasks into smaller steps, or providing additional processing time. The goal is to help each student build confidence and develop strategies that work with—not against—how they learn best.
In a classroom, teachers work with 20-30+ students with varying needs, making it difficult to customize pace, materials, and teaching methods. With personalized 1-on-1 instruction, tutors can focus entirely on your student's learning style, strengths, and challenges. They can slow down to ensure mastery of foundational skills, use specialized techniques proven effective for specific learning differences, and adjust on the fly based on what's working. Research shows that personalized instruction is particularly powerful for students who learn differently, as it removes the pressure to keep pace with peers and builds genuine understanding rather than surface-level learning.
Yes. Tutors work on both fronts simultaneously—strengthening foundational skills that may have gaps (like phonics for a student with dyslexia, or number sense for a student with dyscalculia) while also providing grade-level academic support in subjects like math, reading, and writing. This dual approach prevents students from falling further behind while building the underlying skills they need to access grade-level content more independently. Many students show significant academic growth once they have support tailored to how they actually learn.
Tutors work across all core academics—reading and literacy, math, writing, and test preparation—as well as study skills, executive function support (organization, time management, planning), and subject-specific content like science and social studies. Whether your student needs help with reading comprehension, math fact fluency, written expression, or managing assignments, tutors can provide targeted support. Many also help students develop compensatory strategies and self-advocacy skills, so they can become more independent learners over time.
Tutors typically start by understanding your student's specific strengths, challenges, and learning profile—whether through conversations with you, review of testing/evaluation results, or initial sessions that reveal how the student learns best. From there, they design instruction that plays to strengths while systematically building weaker skills, often using evidence-based techniques specific to the learning difference. They track progress regularly, adjust strategies as needed, and communicate with you about what's working. This personalized approach means the tutoring plan evolves with your student, rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
While a formal evaluation can be helpful—it provides specific insights into your student's learning profile—it's not required to get started with tutoring. If your student is struggling with reading, math, writing, or organization and you suspect a learning difference, tutors can begin working with them right away. That said, if your student has been formally evaluated, sharing that information with the tutor helps them understand your student's specific needs and choose the most effective teaching strategies from the start. Either way, Varsity Tutors can connect you with a tutor who can help.
Progress timelines vary depending on the student's age, the severity of challenges, and how often tutoring happens, but many students show measurable improvements in confidence and skill within 4-8 weeks of consistent sessions. Foundational skills like phonics or basic math facts often show quicker gains, while deeper reading comprehension or written expression may take longer. The key is consistency—regular tutoring sessions combined with practice at home accelerate progress. Tutors track growth continuously and adjust strategies to keep momentum going, so you'll have visibility into how your student is progressing.
