I am a Masters in Biochemistry and PhD in related discipline and at present working as an Instructor in the Department of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX, USA. I had an extensive research and teaching experience of more than 15 years in the field of cell and developmental biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, genetics and molecular biology. I have tremendously enjoyed my journey as an educator and hope to continue with my teaching endeavors in future. Although, my first exposure to classroom teaching was when I served as a Guest Lecturer in NIPER, Hajipur, India (2007-2010) during my PhD, but my voyage as a teacher stems way back into my Undergraduate days where I used to tutor high school students for Biology and Chemistry. In NIPER I taught courses on Molecular Biology, Macromolecules, Separation Techniques and Genomics and Proteomics to students enrolled in Masters of Pharmacy. In 2010 after submitting my PhD thesis I was hired as a Lecturer in the same institute till I moved to USA in 2011 and joined as postdoctoral fellow in UT Southwestern Medical Center. To fulfil my never-ending passion for teaching I got myself involved in teaching and mentoring STARS and SURF students who are visiting UT Southwestern Medical Center in summer. Most recently, I got engaged in teaching advanced level undergraduate courses as an Adjunct Faculty in Southern Methodist University, Dallas, USA: Bio of the Brain in Fall 2021 and Metabolism in Spring 2022.

I'm open to many different physician specialties, but have found psychiatry, neurosurgery, and orthopedics the most interesting so far. Other fun facts about me are that I've been skydiving 25 times (certified), biked from Austin, Texas to Anchorage Alaska to raise money and awareness for cancer research as part of the UT organization Texas 4000, and worked at a haunted house this past October.

I'm passionate about helping students reach their goals because I believe every student has the potential to succeed. I have six years of experience working with students in various settings, from an environmental education camp in northwest Pennsylvania to a bilingual school in Costa Rica. Most recently, I was a teaching assistant for undergraduate journalism classes at Arizona State University from August 2015 to May 2017. I also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 2012 to 2015. While I was there, I taught environmental education courses, helped coach a volleyball team, and taught an entrepreneurship course.

Frequently Asked Questions
Developmental biology relies heavily on spatial reasoning and mental modeling of processes you can't directly observe. Tutors work with you using diagrams, animations, and step-by-step walkthroughs to build a concrete understanding of how cells differentiate, migrate, and organize into tissues. Rather than memorizing stages, you'll develop a conceptual framework that helps you predict outcomes and explain mechanisms—which is what actually matters on exams and in research.
Many students find that discussing these processes out loud, drawing them yourself, and working through specific examples solidifies your understanding far better than reading alone.
Personalized tutoring helps you move beyond just following protocols to understanding the logic behind classic developmental experiments (like Spemann's organizer work or transgenic model systems). Tutors can walk you through what scientists were testing, why they designed experiments that way, and how to interpret results critically rather than just recording data.
This develops your scientific reasoning skills: you'll learn to evaluate experimental validity, spot confounding variables, and design your own investigations. This foundation is invaluable whether you're working in a lab course or conducting independent research.
Understanding is always the stronger approach. While developmental biology does involve learning key terms and sequences, memorization without comprehension leads to confusion when exam questions ask you to apply knowledge in new contexts. The real value is understanding why these processes happen and how different systems interact.
Tutors help you focus on core principles—like induction, signaling gradients, and cell fate specification—so you can reconstruct details rather than simply recall them. This approach takes more work initially, but it's what makes you actually understand the field and perform better on cumulative exams.
Model organisms are chosen because they're well-characterized, have short life cycles, produce large numbers of offspring, and their genetics are well-understood. This makes them ideal for studying developmental processes that would be impossible to observe in humans. Learning a few model systems in depth teaches you transferable principles that apply across species.
Tutors help you understand not just what happens in fruit flies or zebrafish, but why these organisms reveal fundamental developmental principles relevant to all animals, including humans. This conceptual bridge is often what students struggle with independently.
A typical developmental biology course progresses from early embryonic stages (cleavage, gastrulation, neurulation) through organogenesis and later development, often with emphasis on molecular mechanisms. You'll study how tissues form, how genes regulate development, and how disruptions lead to birth defects. Depending on your course level, you may focus heavily on one or two model systems, or survey multiple organisms.
Tutors help you build understanding in real time as new concepts build on previous ones. They can identify gaps quickly and reinforce foundational ideas before you fall behind, which is especially valuable since developmental biology is sequential—missing early concepts makes later units much harder.
The best tutors combine deep content knowledge with the ability to explain complex processes clearly and adapt explanations to how you learn. They ask probing questions to check your understanding rather than just filling gaps, help you develop visual mental models, and connect theory to real research and applications.
Look for someone who can explain why developmental processes work the way they do, help you interpret experimental data, and guide your scientific thinking—not just someone who rehashes the textbook. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who specialize in developmental biology and understand how to build both content mastery and scientific reasoning skills.
With consistent personalized instruction, you can expect clearer understanding of complex embryonic processes, stronger performance on exams requiring application and analysis (not just recall), and better preparation for advanced coursework or research. Many students also develop greater confidence in discussing developmental concepts and designing experiments.
The timeline depends on where you're starting and your goals, but most students see meaningful improvement in understanding within a few weeks of regular sessions. Long-term, the scientific reasoning skills you develop transfer to other biology courses and lab work.
