Initially I enrolled at Baruch College to pursue studies in International Finance, later I transferred to the College of New Rochelle to complete my undergraduate studies with a focus in Sociology and English. Shortly after earning my BA at the College of New Rochelle, I was accepted into Hofstra University's graduate school of education to be professionally trained as an elementary grade teacher. I was searching for a rigorous graduate program and I found it! After earning my MSed at Hofstra, I immediately began teaching with great enthusiasm.What I enjoy most about teaching is learning to meet each student at their need, with their interests at heart. In life you build friendships, and as educators you learn to value the thoughts and ideals of your colleagues. My tutoring experience began with a little boy who was told he was stupid and slow by other students in class; they didn't know his father had passed away from cancer over the summer. He was my first student to tutor. He lost interest in learning because he felt no one showed interest in what he considered important. From then on, I make it my signature to ask each student before each session, "tell me about your day".It only takes a moment, but it has lasting meaning. I've tutored students from grades K-5 and always show gratitude to the parents for their efforts and commitments. My favorite subjects to tutor are English, Science and Social Studies. Learning the various parts of speech, how to improve spelling and build vocabulary while exploring the world of literature is fascinating with life-long rewards. Science opens a world of discovery, often encompassing math and opportunities to write extensively about what's learned or observed. Social Studies is our pathway to revisit history and events that have led up to where we are as a nation as a people sharing planet earth.I share John Dewey's theory "Children learn by doing and that Learning occurs through experience". Students often ask me, "what are we going to do today?" because each session is often different in approach or technique to keep students in engaged and excited about being life-long learners. Most importantly, I always remember to set an example by including myself as a pedagogue, I'm a life-long learner too.

Hello. My name is Andrea. I have been a teacher for 24 years. I have taught preschool and kindergarten for both general and special education. I have worked with all grade levels of students in special education. I enjoy teaching all subjects, but I especially enjoy teaching English and grammar. I Received my Bachelor of Computer Science with a focus on Business Administration from Iberoamerican University. I have lectured in several countries in Latin America, among them; Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil. I am a certified Bilingual Spanish Teacher and have taught in several Cities and States for more than 16 years. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about math, science and languages. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Test, we always seem to have remarkable advancements prepping for the Critical Math, Reading and Writing portions of the exams. I am a firm proponent of education, witnessed how it has improved quality of life for my students and I try to impart this appreciation to all my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, hiking and bicycling.

I am a recent graduate of Eastern University, earning my degree in Early Childhood Education/ Special Ed. I will be starting grad courses this spring, earning my master's in special ed and reading.I am so grateful to have this opportunity to do what I love, through these trying times. My personal mission as an uprising teacher is to help every student succeed, using their own unique strengths. Every student is capable and worthy to learn!For the last several years, I have had the blessing to work with children and students in diverse environments. It is my belief that every student can learn. Once an individual's interests and passions can be intertwined with new learning, success is eminent. When success has not occurred, what is left is not called failure, but a learned way of not to do something. As Edison famously stated, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time in my garden, reading some of the books I own but have yet to read, and taking walks with my dogs.

I recently graduated from Adelphi University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Playwriting Emphasis), and I have a B.S. in Theater from Black Hills State University. I moved around a lot as a child, and I have lived in eight different states including Florida, California, Ohio and South Dakota. I tutor a variety of English-related subjects. I love all aspects of reading and writing, but I have a special fondness for grammar and mechanics. I like to think of punctuation as musical notation, and I love the process of figuring out which words and symbols best serve what I am trying to say. Writing is an agent for self-expression, and I am passionate about helping students to master it. The way that I go about this is dependent on each student's personal strengths, which I asses and then build upon. In addition to tutoring, I also teach Creative Writing and English Composition at Adelphi University. In my spare time, I love to explore NYC. I see as much theater as I can fit into my schedule. I also love visiting the city's museums and parks.

"You are never too old to get an education and learn something."This was a statement that my father said to me on a daily basis. Today, I carry that statement with me everywhere I go.I graduated high school in 1979 after dropping out in the mid 70's. After that, I took a few college courses to give me a leg up in raising my children. I tutored them and showed them how to read and write before they even were in school. I entered the U.S. Army and served for 9 years, then after leaving the military, I became a stay at home mom to teens.Eventually, I went back to college and earned my A.A.S. in Medical Assisting and became Certified in that field after few years I attended Ashford University an online school and earned my B.A. in Social Sciences with Education. I'm currently attending Northcentral University another online school for my Master Education degree in Curriculum and Teaching.I also work as a house substitute in 2 inner-city schools teaching all grades. Later this month I will sit for my Alternative Resident Educator license in Integrated Social Studies, then later this year I will once again sit for my Integrated Science test which I hope to licensed in as well.I love teaching students who have the drive to learn no matter much they don't know I find they always looking for the answer somewhere and I want to see them get to the point that they understand the answer and look for the next step to learning.
