I discovered my love of teaching during my time in the Army. I taught several courses and really enjoyed it. I also was a teaching assistant for the Biology Department at the University of Washington during my undergraduate career. I loved teaching labs and getting to know my students. I am currently applying to medical school and still serve in the Army Reserves.

When I began pursuing Aerospace Engineering, it was going to be my second degree. It would also take place after years of not doing anything math or science related in my first degree. This taught me how to quickly learn concepts, as I went into courses expected to have foundational knowledge that I had completely forgotten.As I began to dedicate myself to this new path, I wanted to give back to those around me. I became a tutor for Chemistry and Physics, and also worked as a Supplemental Instruction Facilitator (think group tutoring) for Chemistry and Math.In recent years, I have also tutored students at the high school level through private tutoring, covering everything from math and science reading and writing.I enjoy every opportunity that I get to help other students learn these concepts and develop a passion for what they may have previously hated. I believe that understanding starts with passion, and so I always strive to make subjects fun and relevant for my students.

While contemplating career options, I realized that the highlight of my day was always my tutoring shift. Life has been far more enriching with both an education and the opportunity to assist others with their education. Additionally, the world we are entering is more demanding of critical thinking skills than ever, so it would be remiss of us not to emphasize intellectual growth. The subject I am most passionate about tutoring is mechanics since this is usually a student's first exposure to synthesizing physical theories with mathematical concepts. Overall, I take a conversational approach to tutoring where I try my best to relate the material to the student's life experiences while drawing more conventional analogies that are proven to make the concept click.

My mother is a second grade teacher at Webster Elementary. In her 21 years of experience as a teacher, she has changed countless lives. Watching my mom take on a new group of kids and mold them into promising students inspired me. I know the effect that a good teacher, or influence, can have on a kid's life. This is what I look to provide to my students. I want to be someone who can help them not only grow in their academic learning, but also flourish as an independent student.

I am a student at Cornell University, expecting to receive my Bachelor of Science in December 2020. I am studying biological sciences with a minor in applied economics, and plan to enter a career in medicine. However, I have a love for learning in all subjects. I have extensive experience as a math tutor both in high school and college, and am eager to help more students in math and science. As a tutor, I hope to be able to make my students appreciate the value of what they are learning and enjoy solving problems independently.

I am fascinated by all things science, and I especially have a passion for math and physics. I earned a B.S. in both General Physics and Applied Math from San Diego State University and have a very enthusiastic and innovative outlook on learning. I'm looking to earn my Ph.D. in Physics starting in the Fall of 2015 and have been tutoring for five years at all levels. I love both math and physics and can tutor a range of math subjects as well as physics; I especially enjoy tutoring high school physics. Tutoring should be a two way street of communication and aimed at helping the student in the best way possible, since each student is unique. I feel that building a professional relationship in which the student is fully comfortable with the tutor builds the best foundation for learning, and my philosophy supports mutual respect. I like to employ a back and forth of questions that triggers the student to learn intrinsically, leading to higher retention rather than merely providing the answers. My teaching philosophy also focuses on test taking strategies and reasoning that compliments the subject leading to a very well rounded individual. I became a high school English teacher in Newark, NJ following an excellent experience coordinating an after-school tutoring program in Cincinnati, OH. As a tutor, a teacher, and a mother, I am committed to the world of education. It has been most rewarding to tutor my students in English, literature, and writing. I firmly believe that students learn best when engaging in material that is meaningful to them. I help my students to find relevancy in what they're learning, and I always tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of the student. Outside of education, I enjoy practicing meditation, cooking, and expressing myself through bonsai and wood burning art.
