MCAT Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills Tutor • +9 Subjects
I attended The University of New England and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology. Before my graduation, I had extensive experience tutoring biochemistry and other topics within the sciences. After graduating, I have continued teaching basic reading skills and mathematics to adult students with the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford. While I am currently applying to medical school, I am also working as a Research Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital. Additionally, I am continuing to maintain the Firefighter and EMT certifications that I have used extensively over the last seven years. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Biology, Chemistry, Critical Reading, and Writing. In my experience, thoroughly understanding these topics will prepare students for standardized tests such as the SAT or MCAT (both of which I have taken). Overall, I love helping students of any level achieve their academic aspirations.

I am a graduate of The University of Houston and received my Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering this past May. Having recently finished college, I have a good understanding of the courses and conditions college students take and go through. While obtaining my degree, I often provided informal tutoring for my peers to help them grasp concepts and work through challenging homework problems. It is also my belief that anyone can grasp a concept and that something that seems challenging or doesn't make sense often just hasn't been explained in a way that makes sense yet. I see it as one of my jobs as a tutor to find an explanation that makes sense. I mainly tutor mechanical engineering or related topics and mathematics. I aim to keep my teaching style casual and approachable so that my students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help in the areas they need it.

Presently, I work full-time for a large non-profit organization in a management position where I combine technology and statistical analysis to make purchasing decisions as well as design efficient workflow procedures. I hope to put my experience and skills to good use helping your child achieve their potential while also developing an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics.

I fell in love with teaching during my undergraduate years at Brandeis University. I was a teaching assistant during both my junior and senior years. I not only got to TA at the college level at Brandeis for biology laboratory courses, but I also was a TA for several summers for the Johns Hopkins summer program CTY for both a Neuroscience and Fast Paced Biology course. My passion for teaching lead me to a Wilcox Fellowship at Concord Academy after graduation. Concord Academy is an elite preparatory school located in Concord, MA, and here I spent two years teaching students and developing my skills as an educator. I taught two sections of a freshman biology course and during my second year at the school, I was also in the Academic Support Center. Here I worked one-on-one with students who needed extra help in their courses. After my two years at Concord, I began medical school at New York Medical College. Between my first and second year of medical school I developed my own three-week Neuroscience course for the Johns Hopkins summer program CTY. I was responsible for the overall running of this course from the creation of all the lesson plans to all of the grading. Overall during my time as a medical student, my knowledge of the sciences has expanded exponentially. Additionally, all my interactions with patients have taught me how to break down information into understandable and meaningful pieces and then check for overall understanding. This is the same method with which I engage all students. Making sure that all students progress and do well is always my ultimate goal.
