Included in Roblox Coding Club
Weekly Club Meetings
Your young coder will explore game design and computer science concepts will designing, creating and playing fun Roblox games with their class and instructor. Each month, club members will add a new element of coding to their toolkit as their instructor demonstrates programming techniques and challenges them to put them to work.
What They Need
Students will need a computer with a microphone and video camera for this collaborative online club. Download the free Roblox Studio (works on Windows and Mac computers but not compatible with Chromebooks, tablets, or Linux computers). Visit https://www.roblox.com/create and click "start creating" to download.
Roblox StarCourses
Roblox Coding Club will inspire your learner to explore computer programming, but there’s more where that came from! They’ll be invited to computer science StarCourses led by tech inventors and entrepreneurs where learners see firsthand the awesome power of code to create and innovate.
Monthly Themes
January: Coding Video Games
Students will explore the coding concepts of strings and variables as they storyboard and code their own video games. Projects will include Code Your Own Story Game as students move beyond Roblox tools and into the coder’s toolkit.
February: Conditionals and Gameplay
Students will experiment with coding conditionals, including if/then statements and else/else-if statements, as they build games full of actions and corresponding reactions. Projects will include designing and coding the popular Adventure Game.
March: Loops, Functions and Advanced Gameplay
Students will build a deeper toolkit as they explore loops and functions and the power that these code principles give them to create evergreen game components like timers and point systems. Projects will include creating a timed bridge and point-giving parts.
April: Arrays & Complex Game Components
Students will develop the ability to create detailed games of various tools and characters as they learn to use arrays to store sets of gameplay information. Projects will include creating talking characters and disappearing paths
May: Game Design Challenge
Students will put their Roblox coding skills to the test as they dream up, design, and code their own game creations through the use of scripts, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, arrays, and Roblox Studio. Collaborating with classmates and their instructor, they’ll each build a game for the entire club to play.
