Included in Junior Geologist Club:
Weekly Club Meetings
Your “rock star” will join fellow geologists once a week to study rocks, gems, minerals, and the underground processes that shape our world. Led by an expert instructor, sessions will blend in-depth expeditions with hands-on projects and lively discussions as club members investigate a new geological theme each month.
Bonus Geology Clubhouse Activities
Junior geologists can dig into plenty of fun and unique activities through our virtual After School Clubhouse. The Clubhouse has videos, quizzes, fun downloadable experiences--it’s the mother lode of geology activities.
Geology StarCourses
Your child will be invited to our upcoming live StarCourses hosted by geologists, seismologists, volcanologists, paleontologists, and other expert “rock” stars.
Monthly Themes
January: Rocks—Nature’s Greatest Storytellers
This month, junior geologists will learn how rocks tell the long story of earth’s history...and its future. They’ll see how scientists have used rocks to answer age-old questions (like what happened to the dinosaurs?), and how to draw those conclusions for themselves.
February: Fancy Rocks—Gems, Minerals, & Crystals
From diamond rings to gold bars to ruby slippers, mankind’s most prized possessions are the world’s most dazzling rocks. Junior geologists will explore how those rocks are formed—both naturally and in labs—and what makes them so rare, so beautiful, and so valuable.
March: Underground Exploration: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, & Plate Tectonics
The ground beneath us seems firm and stable, but in reality it’s in constant motion. This month, junior geologists will visit volcanoes, examine earthquakes, and explore the constantly changing configuration of continents as they examine how rocks shape the world around us.
April: Space & Dinosaurs Rock
What do space and dinosaurs have in common with rocks? This month campers will find out, as they discover meteors and craters and uncover the fossil record, which proves that Earth has been home to amazing creatures and pieces of other planets.
May: Fascinating Formations
Big or small, from the Grand Canyon to a handful of crystals, rock formations are among the most alluring sights on earth. This month, junior geologists will explore the earth’s most exotic rock formations and the processes that create them.
