For those students looking for help on college applications, I worked in the admissions office of my university. I also won a merit-based scholarship in graduate school and college, so I can help there as well. I can help you because I know what they are looking for, and personally used the Common App to successfully apply to college. I received offers of admission to ALL the schools I applied!
I love working with kids and new learners in Reading! One of my own cherished memories growing up was watching "Reading Rainbow." One of the most satisfying things to witness is when someone realizes they have new skills in sounding out words (ESL/elementary reading) or now-found confidence to take on the ACT! I do appreciate the learning styles of children as I currently share time each week at a pediatric hospital helping kids learn and grow!
I have a passion for helping students learn to the best of their abilities. Whether you are a struggling student or one who is looking for an edge in applying to college, I am eager to provide whatever I can to provide the best opportunity for individualized success!
I have my Bachelor's degrees in both History and Communication Studies from Furman University--a selective, private liberal arts university located in Greenville, SC, and am currently finishing up a Master's in Divinity. I graduated with my double Bachelor's magna cum laude, and worked in the Office of Admission while at Furman. Because of this experience, I understand the college admissions process well, and can help students brainstorm or polish their writing to impress colleges with their admissions essays.
I believe no two students are alike, and I am familiar with many different learning styles. Learning is a pursuit of life-long discovery, so I encourage students to ask questions and to remember not to give up! I also did well on the ACT, so those looking for a tutor in that area, I would love to assist in creating/coaching a study program so when test time comes, you are confident and prepared! Most importantly, I want students to know that with me, don't be afraid to make mistakes! Getting the answer wrong or even a bad grade is such a great tool for learning if you stay engaged and you know it does not define your abilities nor intelligence! Let's work together! I believe learning is much more effective, memorable, and productive when you have an ally or teammate. Finally, I love seeing students discover how to arrive at an answer, rather than just being told the answer. It makes our time spent so much more meaningful for all involved.
