School is a game that teaches you how to think critically and how to succeed. When I tutor a student, I am fully invested in their success. I tend to go above and beyond to ensure that they achieve their goal. I'll generally formulate an ideal strategy for success and facilitate its implementation. The student's learning style, the teacher's tendencies, the time constraint and the difficulty/length of the material are all important factors that I consider when making the game-plan.
Tutoring is a great tool to get an edge over the rest of the class. I credit tutoring as the reason for my success in Calc 1-3, Finance, Linear Algebra, and Managerial Economics in undergraduate. I have since received my M.S. and tutor economics, statistics and math. I am strongly opposed to the 'plug and chug' study method where students simply memorize equations without grasping the concepts. Based on my experience, understanding the concepts behind each problem makes a significant difference for the students. By using examples, visuals, and detailed explanations, I can make intimidating problems appear extremely straightforward. Conceptually understanding the material allows them to adjust to any variation of questions on a specific topic
I was recently awarded my M.S. in Financial Economics with a Certificate in Big Data Analytics at Florida Atlantic University (3.6GPA). During my time there, I tutored Student-Athletes in any level of Micro/Macroeconomics, Statistics, and math. It was my job to make sure the athletes remained academically eligible. Because of my history of success, FAU started relying on me to help many of the academically-at-risk athletes to get through Statistics and Quantitative Methods of Business. I was also a Graduate Assistant for Microeconomics and Intermediate Microeconomics, where I tutored students weekly and held review sessions before each exam. Based solely on word of mouth, students started contacting me seeking help, so I would sometimes tutor privately as well.
Before Graduate School, I was awarded my B.S. in Finance with a minor in Actuarial Science from the University of Florida. As Scholarship Chair of my fraternity, I took on the responsibility of confronting any fellow members who were struggling academically. To stay active, the cumulative GPA of the fraternity needed to be higher than 2.5. Therefore, it was my job to either help the struggling students personally or refer them to someone who could.
+ Economics Help: I'm your guy simply because of my knowledge in the subject (as evidenced by my Master's Degree), and my experience getting people through economics classes successfully.
+ Statistics: I have helped self-proclaimed 'hopeless' students get A's and B's. I have taken more math/stats courses than I can count and consistently used advanced statistics in Econometrics and Data Mining.
+ Algehra: I know algebra intuitively, so I can explain it in a way that will make even the 'scariest' problems much easier. I have managed to help a student with no prior knowledge of algebra pass the CLEP test and get College Algebra credit (~12 sessions).
+ Quantitative Problem-Solving: (from a standardized test) I help the student conceptualize each type of problem and solve them in the most efficient and effective manner. For difficult problems, I teach tricks to solve them with backdoor methods or educated guesses because time management is imperative. I help them develop and master effective test-taking methods to achieving a high score.
Overall, I'd be a big help for anyone struggling in math or economics. When tutoring students, I care more about effort than how quickly you can learn. Because I can get anybody through Economics, Statistics, or other math subjects if they are willing to put in the time and effort. When I'm contracted as a tutor, the student will get a genuine and reliable "teammate" to help them understand concepts and answer any questions. I become invested in my client's success, so it goes without saying that I will always provide them with everything that is needed to succeed.
