Certified Tutor

As a tutor, I've worked with college Freshman and Sophomore students to develop their academic writing and reading comprehension abilities. I also teach students the appropriate study skills and practices in order to focus and achieve their academic goals. I have a year experience working with adolescent, college-aged, and adult students as an English for Speakers of Other Languages teacher in Colombia and Peru, where I developed lesson plans based on assigned curriculum. Working with non-native speakers of English, I cultivated my ability to help students with limited knowledge of English to apply the language knowledge base they have in order to expand their English literacies and practices.

My coursework in Literary Studies includes ENGL 8000, Bibliography and Research Methods, where I mastered citational practice and research methods, as well as ENGL 8001, Professional Writing Seminar, where we worked with Hayot's book Elements of Academic Style to further develop our own writing as well as our ability to provide meaningful feedback on student writing. This coursework has given me detailed insight and ability to provide specific feedback on what exactly a student's paper should be accomplishing at various points in the essay. I also have a high score in GRE Verbal Reasoning and Analytic Writing.

With my skillset and experience working with younger students and non-native English speakers, I look forward to what i can offer in our tutoring sessions.
