The teacher's role is to be an advocate and a champion for every student. This most likely will never look the same to each student. Traditionally the role of a teacher was thought to be to help students apply concepts, such as math, English, and science through classroom instruction and presentations. Theirroleis also to prepare lessons, grade papers, manage the classroom, meet with parents, and work closely with school staff. These traditional views are no longer relevant in today's classroom. Educators are not effective with today's standards by just standing at the front of the class reciting the lesson, giving tests, and grading papers. More emphasis is being placed on highly qualified teachers who have worked in their respective fields especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The emphasis is being placed because it is being expected that teachers can give students an inside perspective including critical thinking and hands on experiences. Experiential teaching is seizing the day. As technology and science moves so quickly that if you are just learning what is known and not understanding who, what, where, when, and how we know it then you will not be ready for career or college. We need to develop students with grit and an ability to problem solve. Teaching is an ever-evolving art form. It is important for teachers to stay current on best practices and remain vigilant on being involved in reform conversations.
I am currently attending Grand Canyon University working on my Masters in Secondary Education. I will be a highly qualified teacher, teaching Science in public high school starting Fall 2018. I enjoy spending time with my family whenever possible. We are originally from Maui HI and have been living in Arizona for 2 years. I look forward to working with new students and developing a successful relationship.
