Certified Tutor

I am a current doctoral student at Tulane University who has found himself at home in New Orleans. I hold a B.A. in political economy and am pursuing a PhD in political development. What is political economy, you ask? It's an interdisciplinary field that, along with my study at the university level of Spanish and gender studies, gives me deep experience in writing, research, quantitative skills, and reasoning.

I have tutored Spanish, English composition, grammar, math, and history in different environments for the last five years. I also have university-level background in music history and theory, and I am a traditionally and non-traditionally trained percussionist/drummer of thirteen years. I am familiar working with students k-college level.

I love tutoring because of the individualized care and attention students are able to receive, yet often don't have access to in our education system. I often get excited about the subject material itself, and even more excited when students and I make progress together on any topic or subject.

Most importantly, my philosophy of tutoring and teaching is centered around respect and equality. The learning space, and the whole process of learning itself, should allow the student to do more than just master a topic; it should allow them to become self sufficient so that they can help themselves and others, while building a greater respect or themselves and what they can accomplish. I consciously approach any teaching situation understanding that people are coming from different places, and I want to meet the student where they are and develop mutual trust and feel safe in their learning environment.

I currently have a very flexible schedule and make it a priority to keep stress to a minimum for everyone involved. Thanks so much, and I look forward to hearing from you.
