Certified Tutor

Reluctant student turned teacher and coach.

When I was a senior in high school, I had loathed my language arts teacher, which motivated me to become a teacher myself in hopes of one day ridding the world of despicable teachers. Now, I work with secondary students in the classroom and on the field. I get excited when I see my students succeed. It is my life's purpose to help others be the best version of themselves.

I love working with students of all different ability levels. My degrees are in language arts education and exceptional education. Also, I recently look my ACT as part of a requirement to receive a grant, so I have first hand knowledge of the requirements and test taking strategies needed to do well on the assessment.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe every child is able to be successful with the right tools, the right support, and a willingness to be successful.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would talk to the student to get a better understanding of what their needs are. Then, I would ask about their personal life to see if there are other factors that are affecting their school performance.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help students become independent learners by finding out what their learning style is, identifying their main motivators, and then teaching them strategies to help them be successful independently.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by developing a personal relationship so that our tutoring sessions are a pleasure for them.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

My number one priority would be to understand where/why the student is having difficulty. Then, I would seek alternative ways to reteach the subject by doing independent research.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Struggling readers need a variety of reading comprehension strategies to learn how to think about what they're reading before, during, and after reading the text.
