I majored in Middle Eastern Studies and minored in math during undergrad at Cornell. Since graduating I've worked in a number of fields and countries, although the common theme is teaching English and researching in the Middle East. As an English Teaching Assistant at Weill Medical School in Qatar, I became competent at editing and guiding students in writing. I'm now a first year fellow studying Policy Analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School.

Growing up with good mentors was crucial for the development of not only my academic success, but also the growth of me as an individual. I strongly believe that with correct and steadfast guidance, anyone can achieve anything. I was inspired by my own teachers to become what I loved, which turns out to be a mechanical engineering student, and I hope to reciprocate that to the upcoming generations.

As an English and German educator for 6 years, I can honestly say that I love languages! I learned German fin Germany when I was on the year-long Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program in high school. I went to Germany knowing only a few words, so I definitely know language learning frustrations first-hand. I kept working at it, studied abroad again at the University of Bonn, and earned my Bachelor's degree in German! I was able to apply these skills as an educator when I taught English in Austrian high schools for two years. I have worked with K-adult learners, and I hope to be meeting you soon! Thanks/Danke!

I have enjoyed exceptional success both in standardized tests and in a conceptual approach in science. A spectacular GRE score helped me cross the entire globe (I did my undergrad at IIT-Kanpur, India) and landed at Yale for Graduate School. My research earned me the most coveted award for a student in any field and at any level at Yale at the end of my Ph.D.: the only time it was awarded to STEM in 35 years! Now, completely immersed in research in developing best the material for clean energy technology, I really miss the teaching that I immensely enjoyed for last 10 years.My secret: success in tests (and maybe in life, too) comes from not just what we know, but what we can deliver in a short time, when demanded. I learned the methods in a hard way. I aim to work with students who are like I once was: struggling, needing an extra push, or stuck on a problem without a solution. I hope to transplant what I have learned into young minds. I hope to help today's dreamers become tomorrow's most promising scientists, engineers, and doctors.

My name is Ethan Swerdlow, and I am currently working as a Mechanical Engineer at Boeing's Huntington Beach facility.I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lafayette College in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics. I played Division-I Football for all four years of my undergraduate experience.I was born and raised in San Diego, and attended La Jolla High School. During my high school years, I played varsity football and lacrosse, and completed a rigorous course load.Because of my 8 years as a student-athlete, I understand the complexities of time management that students face when balancing difficult coursework and other activities. Throughout my higher education, I have enjoyed tutoring. My strengths and passions are in math and science. Growing up, I struggled a bit with other subjects, and because of this, I have a great appreciation for the importance of a helpful tutor.

I am currently attending California Institute of the Arts. I am studying art, as well as theatre and art management. Eventually, I hope to attend grad school for library science. Throughout my undergraduate education I traveled to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua with Outreach360 on seven trips to teach Spanish Literacy and Public Health. I returned several times and witnessed the power of education in transforming impoverished communities. At North Carolina State University, I taught children how to eat healthy on a fixed income through Cooking Matters. I am currently teaching CPR and First Aid with the Red Cross and volunteer at a free clinic in Santa Monica while I apply to Medical School. While I have taught a broad range of subjects, Biology and Spanish are my passion. In my spare time, I enjoy riding horses, yoga, and hiking.
