Tutoring review by Kory in Redmond, WA
Reviewed the chapter today. The student seems to have a very good understanding of the subject matter, but seems to have trouble knowing where to apply such knowledge. That being said, the best way to combat this problem is to read through the book and learn to use the terms it uses. This way, you will be able to know what the question is asking. After understanding the question, the student has little to no trouble coming to the correct solution. Keep up the great work!

Tonight's math concept was comparing amounts by totaling the amount of change in a purse and indicating if there was enough money to buy an item with a price tag. The student understood the comparison portion perfectly, but had issues with adding the change. We used the base ten blocks after the first two, which helped. Next, we worked on adding ed and ing to words. Then we applied the practice to sentence completion. I also gave her another spelling quiz. She only missed plan (wrote 2 n's) and jogged (wrote 1 g).

Today the student and I resumed our normal program for the session.  We went through some language lessons and reviewed things we had studied in previous weeks.  She is now recalling a great deal of what she has learned, and most impressively, she is recognizing some characters by sight.  Her listening comprehension is more progressed than her reading or speaking comprehension at this point.

Tutoring review by Bethany in Redmond, WA
To begin, Student 1 learned three new vocabulary words. We also discussed the prior weeks' words. Then, we went through Student 2's word list of the 600 most commonly used words. He only missed 9 out of 600. Lastly, we read a few pages from his novel. He struggled on a few of the big words but was able to sound many of them out without my help.
