I'm here to help students understand that they have what it takes to be a solid writer, and as a result, hopefully, lessen the pressure and stress that I know that students today are under. After a two-year stint in high school leading a course aimed to help ease the transition of incoming freshman into my school, I knew I wanted to continue working with students in whatever way I could moving forward.In college, I enrolled in a writing-tutoring program that landed me two jobs on my campus's writing center. As a writing fellow, each semester I worked closely with students in a freshman writing-intensive English class aimed to bring everyone up to the same collegiate writing level. As a writing tutor, I held general weekly office hours that were open to any student seeking a tutoring session for any stage of their writingprocess across all subjects. In addition to these tutoring positions, I also worked on Colby's student newspaper The Colby Echo as the head copy editor.What I enjoy the most about tutoring is seeing students realize their own potential and gain confidence as they start to discover what they're truly capable of. Even while on the road, reading and writing will always be a passion of mine and I'm eager to help lessen the fear factor that I know it can often hold for others.

Being a Resident Assistant meant counseling and creating a positive learning environment for 140+ students in 2 years. My time management and people management skills were sharpened from this time spent with strict deadlines and colorful personalities.My tutoring experience is vast because I have so much more to offer than simply a high GPA and some academic knowledge. In my experience, some of the smartest people in the world are the worst teachers, because they can't relate to the student. Whether its math, physics, chemistry, psychology, astronomy, reading or creative writing, I've experienced the ups and downs in these fields of thought and at this point I've assimilated a great deal of information. I know the feeling of hunger when I don't get some concept, and I also know that satisfying feeling of understanding the concept. I've counseled roommates over their relationship problems, I've looked into the future with students as they outline their dreams, and I've been tutored and have tutored my fellow chemical engineering classmates countless times at 4am working long into the night to understand complex concepts.My teaching style is that of the captain of a ship in the ocean. At the beginning of the tutoring session, I want to know where you are, and what you already know. Once we've established what you comprehend and what you don't comprehend, then we can go along and identify within the time we have for a particular session, where you want to go. Once the map is marked and our sail is set, and our goal is set, then we can go ahead and chart our path, and do what we need to do to achieve that goal. If you have a homework you need help on, perfect. If you have an exam to study for, perfect, show me your notes and homework and we'll go over them and I'll make new questions for you. If you have nothing, and need to start from scratch, that's fine too. I always bring my iPad and can create a lesson for you on the spot.My style is vibrant and energetic, yet calm and assuring. I will challenge you. I will not give away the answers for you; I will make you explain the concepts to me after I help you understand them more concretely. I have a magnificent imagination where I'll relate the funniest, most absurd ideas together so that a concept makes sense. Lastly, I am extremely attentive and observant to people that are around me. I will identify the language you say to me and will then know the type of learner you are, and the way you process information best. This allows me to cater the tutoring experience to you, and make you feel the most comfortable in learning what you need to learn.I am a lifelong learner. As a Teacher knowledgeable of the needs of Students With Disabilities, my duty has been to ensure the success of all students under my charge. I've been very adamant about advocating for better placement, accommodation, and services for all students, as SPED pedagogy is not only beneficial to SPED students, but general students as a whole. I have been mindful of the 60/40 Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) compliance compositions, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) setting compliance, and above all, delivery of services by a SPED instructor.

Learning a new language can be challenging for most learners, but with the use of the right tools and approaches there will be nothing to hinder your progress. thus, teachers will always have the privilege to assist students to achieve their goals.

Currently I am a senior East Asia Studies major at ASU. During my sophomore year, I began studying Mandarin Chinese. Learning Chinese has become an integral part of my college experience, mainly because of my decision to join the ASU Chinese Language Flagship. Flagship is a competitive program designed to help members reach a "superior" level of language proficiency. As a Flagship member, I have participated in special Flagship classes, weekly tutoring, and a two-month summer study. For my Flagship capstone, I am preparing to study for a year abroad at Tianjin Normal University in China. In addition to Chinese, I am also passionate about English. I am an avid reader, and I especially enjoy books on politics and philosophy. In the future, I hope to travel and teach English in many different countries, in Asia and around the world. I also plan to attend graduate school, and eventually I would like to teach in a university. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar and going to KTV with my friends. I am a very patient and relaxed person, and I believe that the best teacher is someone who learns alongside their students.

I recently moved to Houston and I am loving the chance to explore a brand new city. I just married the woman of my dreams on August 31, 2014. She is an emergency room nurse at Memorial Hermann Southwest Medical Center. My passion is for lifelong learning and particularly how it relates to medicine and the human body. I think that it is essential for young people to have someone in their life who is excited about learning and who can impart that passion to them. I strive to be a tutor who accomplishes this goal.I have numerous hobbies which I like to partake in whenever given the chance. I enjoy playing and watching all different sports, but primarily find time to play basketball. I am very interested in fitness and health and enjoy cooking in my spare time. I also enjoy playing games on my Wii and PC, as well as reading all different genres of literature.In high school I spent a great deal of time volunteering to tutor elementary students in a variety of subjects including reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and Latin. I college I was primarily a tutor for introductory chemistry, biology, and math. I also volunteered tutoring math and science to 5th and 3rd graders while in college and enjoyed it greatly. My favorite subjects to tutor are elementary math and science because I think it is essential to get young students excited in these subjects as early as possible.
