I am a graduate of the University of Chicago. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics. I have tutored middle school and high school aged students in math and science for over two years. Coming from such a technical background, I know that many students find these subjects intimidating, but I always personalize my approach so that they won't be quite so boring and formal. Math and science are less scary, and more fun, when we can relate them back to real world examples. I'm especially passionate about tutoring math subjects because I used to hate math, but then someone took the time to make sure I really understood everything, and it quickly became my favorite subject. I also focus on concepts and why we solve questions in a specific way, rather than memorizing the steps for a specific type of question. I have found that having a solid understanding of the concepts behind the question gives the student more confidence to solve a wide variety of problems. In my free time, if I'm not cooking, then I'm watching movies or catching up on the latest Netflix series.

I recently finished my M.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University. I am staying in the Chicago area because I truly love the city and envision staying here for a long time.As a tutor, I have had students ranging from sophomores in high school to adults transitioning into a new career. My Engineering curriculum at Northwestern was heavily centered around Math, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, so I can work with a student on more than one class at a time. I also have a lot of experience with test prep and love working with students who need help with standardized tests.I'm a laid back individual, but I like to push my students. I know that every student is able to do well and I really enjoy helping them along their path to success. But being laid back, I am also good at relaxing a student and helping point out what is important and what is not.In my free time, I enjoy writing music. I am currently a PhD candidate completing my doctorate at Yale University in the Medieval Studies department and has previously obtained masters degrees in English Literature and Medieval Studies from Yale, The University of Georgia, and the University of Glasgow. An Atlanta native, I returned from New Haven to live and work in Georgia while I finish the final stages of his dissertation. Over the course of my studies, I have taught undergraduate literature and history as an instructor at Yale, the University of Georgia, Oxford University, the University of Glasgow, the University of Connecticut, and Wesleyan College (Macon, Georgia).At the same time, I have worked as a teacher and tutor for the LSAT, GMAT, and GRE for over thirteen years. I am one of two authors of the all-new revision of Barrons GMAT guide and Barrons Passkey to the GMAT, and have previously written content for Kaplan, Parliament Tutors, and Success Prep. From literature to poetry, grammar and vocabulary, short stories and creative writing, my classroom is never a boring place to be. I also took courses in tutoring, critical analysis of fiction and theory, and dramatic literature. My teaching philosophy is focused on a student's growth and increasing his or her ability to work independently. First I explain and discuss the information and strategies the student needs. Then I point out instances where the student can use the strategies (and guide the student through them if need be). Lastly, I back off a bit, allowing the student to use strategies on his or her own. In the Writing Center, this process has given students greater confidence as they internalize knowledge and become increasingly able to use it on their own. Since I also majored in Theater, I also enjoy stage acting, singing in a chorus, or even dancing!
