Buenos das! I am a native of Nashville, TN, and I received my B.A. in Spanish at Belmont University. I spent my junior year studying abroad in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, which was one of the greatest cultural and linguistic experiences of my life! I have been teaching Spanish since 2014, and I am currently working on my Masters in World Language Education at UGA.I have a great deal of passion for the nuances of the Spanish language, and I love to share it with my students. Masculine/feminine agreement, verb conjugations, the subjunctive tense - these can be tricky concepts to grasp, but my philosophy is that, at the end of the day, it is all about communication. When I'm not teaching, I love cooking, hiking, kayaking, reading, singing, playing my ukulele, and, of course, continuing to gather more knowledge about the Spanish language and cultures.

I taught English and creative writing for several years during my graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including first-year English writing courses. I am passionate about helping students of all ages improve their writing skills. I love leading students through the writing process to produce great papers and college application essays, as well as study for AP and SAT exams. I can also help with personal statements for graduate school applications, including the creative writing MFA.Awards and Fellowships at UW-Madison:Campus-wide Teaching Assistant award for Innovation in Teaching, an award given to 15 grad students out of 2200 TAsUniversity Housing teaching award, a student-nominated honorDavid Maraniss Fellow at the School of Journalism and Mass CommunicationHoffman-Halls Emerging Artist Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative WritingIn addition to my experience in academia, MFA in creative writing, and MA in journalism, I have over a decade of experience as a magazine writer and editor. Tutoring mirrors publishing, in that they're both collaborative efforts to train stronger writers to write refined prose. Great progress can be made this way.I teach writing as a process by encouraging students to embrace drafting. We take time to understand the project, brainstorm, follow idea threads, and write first drafts. Then the feedback and revision process begins, which leads to a final, polished piece. I can help at any point on this timeline.I'm excited to help both high school and college students with academic work and test prep, and I can also give you feedback one-on-one with your fiction or poetry project. Please contact me to learn more and schedule lessons."[Emily] is always positive and always has wonderful constructive criticism for my essays. She makes me feel as though she takes time to learn my writing style and genuinely cares about my success in the class. This class has made me enjoy English after hating it for all of high school." --UW-Madison student evaluation

I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

I was volunteered in high school to tutor math on my lunch breaks by my precalculus teacher. The students that I tutored told me that I explained math better than their teachers and it was a great feeling.I pursued my degree in Secondary Mathematics and taught Junior High School math when I was certified. While pursuing my degree in teaching students with learning disabilities, I co-taught the first grade at a Montessori school. Currently I work for a private company that pushes me into title one schools in Harlem to help them with HIgh School Math courses to prep for the common core exams. I also work for publicly funded programs as a third grade teacher.Teaching is the most rewarding profession become my students' success becomes a part of my own success story.

I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students.Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics tests, that wasn't what mattered most to me. I wanted to share my excitement and love for math and physics. The most important results for me were seeing students get excited about physics, and start doing their own exploring. Test scores come and go, but attitude and enthusiasm are forever.

MBA builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills that apply across academics and careers. A strong foundation in MBA opens doors to advanced coursework and prepares students for standardized tests.

Many students find that success in MBA boosts their confidence in related subjects too.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in MBA because topics build on each other.

A tutor identifies exactly where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and gives you targeted practice until the concepts click. That 1-on-1 attention makes a big difference.

Look for someone with strong MBA knowledge who can explain concepts in multiple ways until you understand. Patience and the ability to adapt to your learning style matter as much as expertise.

Varsity Tutors vets all tutors through background checks, credential review, and teaching evaluation—so you can focus on finding the right personality and teaching approach fit.

For students who are struggling, stuck, or want to excel, tutoring often pays off in better grades, stronger test scores, and reduced stress. The 1-on-1 format lets you move at your own pace and focus on what you actually need.

Many students also develop better study habits that serve them in other subjects.

Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week. If you're significantly behind or have a major exam coming up, more frequent sessions can help you catch up faster.

Your tutor can recommend a schedule based on your goals and timeline.

Yes—both are core parts of tutoring. Tutors help you work through challenging homework problems while teaching the underlying concepts, so you're not just getting answers but actually learning.

For exams, tutors provide targeted review, practice problems, and test-taking strategies specific to MBA.

Tutoring is typically purchased in hour packages, with rates varying by tutor experience and subject complexity. Varsity Tutors offers several package options.

You can discuss pricing during your consultation to find an option that fits your budget and goals.

Your tutor will assess where you are, discuss your goals, and start working on areas where you need the most help. Many students bring current homework or upcoming test material to focus on.

By the end of the session, you'll have a plan for moving forward and a sense of how your tutor approaches teaching MBA.
