I take a student centered and inquiry-based approach, and over the past 6 years, I have helped so many students achieve their academic goals. I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

I was volunteered in high school to tutor math on my lunch breaks by my precalculus teacher. The students that I tutored told me that I explained math better than their teachers and it was a great feeling.I pursued my degree in Secondary Mathematics and taught Junior High School math when I was certified. While pursuing my degree in teaching students with learning disabilities, I co-taught the first grade at a Montessori school. Currently I work for a private company that pushes me into title one schools in Harlem to help them with HIgh School Math courses to prep for the common core exams. I also work for publicly funded programs as a third grade teacher.Teaching is the most rewarding profession become my students' success becomes a part of my own success story.

I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students.Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics tests, that wasn't what mattered most to me.
