I am an Artist, Teacher and Mother hoping to connect with students in a variety of Artistic endeavors. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art with a concentration in Graphic Design and Illustration, along with a Masters Degree in Art Education. I am passionate about helping students fulfill their full artistic potential, and learn about Art. I tutor Kindergarten through 12th grade level Art, and Art Education Students at the Collegiate level.

The young men in our classroom ranged in age from 12 to 18 and were all from inner city neighborhoods. They called the academy their temporary home because of prior criminal offenses. I found myself working in a classroom that was very diverse: I had to learn how to work with Individual Education Plans, manage conflicts, and maintain focus in a difficult classroom. With each student at a different grade level, the curriculum had to be tailored for every individual. The one-on-one interaction needed to administer their curriculum led to improved grades and increased enthusiasm for some of the boys.I worked as a paraprofessional in a classroom for students with severe autism. The challenges that autistic students face can be unique, frustrating, and dangerous. Our limited understanding of the condition is an obstacle, but our students continue to learn when their minds are stimulated, and with confidence-building instruction. The teaching staff must always be mindful of students' individual needs, and above this, be patient. I believe it is important for an educator to have the utmost patience, especially when working with a student who has special challenges.Because effective communication is my specialty, I consistently use it as a mainstay in my approach to my work ethic. I worked as a tutor for an after-school program called College Bound for Kids for close to two years in Los Angeles, California. During this time, I met with each teacher individually and many parents to discuss their child's progress. I also took specific notes pertaining to the progress of nearly 100 students in order to ensure that the tutoring offered was providing the best help. I then relayed all feedback I received to my fellow tutoring staff, educators and families. We all worked together as a team, and as a result students excelled, parents were more aware, our staff was better prepared, and I felt like a part of that community. No other teaching experience has been as rewarding as that time in my life. During this time, my passion for working in a classroom setting was solidified. My goal is to continue going above and beyond as a Varsity Tutor.

I have been a highly skilled middle school science teacher for the past three years in New York City public schools. This experience enables much familiarity with the standards and curriculums that some students may need help with in all subject areas. After tutoring some students I realized that they performed better in numerous tasks since they gained confidence and skills from our sessions. I believe that working one-on-one could develop better understanding of a subject since the tutor and student will work to meet specific goals with strengths and weaknesses kept in mind.

Tutoring has been a steady side-gig for me in Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, and The Netherlands. I am also a massive language learning fan and I guess that because it made me more marketable, I have actually held tutoring sessions in at least five languages; I know what I'm doing.My MO is pretty simple: we meet, we discuss your motivations and expectations, I come up with a plan, we tweak it together, and then we are off to the races.

I am a doctor-in-training and I believe that every student has their unique style of learning, which requires a unique style of teaching as well. My goal is to ensure every student learns in a way that helps them understand and retain the knowledge better.I believe you understood the material only when you can explain any person in lay-man terms. I try to understand every student's goals and expectations prior to the session, which helps me work with them efficiently. I like to form a trust-based relationship with the students, which could enhance their learning.

Having attained my bachelors degree in history, I would now like to spend my time on a job that pertains to what I know, and love.I plan on applying to grad schools in the following year, but until then I'd like to know more about pedagogy and historical representation. Tutoring seems like a perfect fit for this, although I'm aware I may be called on to teach more than just history.I've worked in classrooms dealing with various subjects and learning with the students is a treat regardless of the content being taught. Getting to know a student, and creating a lesson plan to suit them is a rewarding challenge.As an historian, I focused mainly on the Caribbean, but my college prided itself on teaching students the research and reading skills necessary to understand a concept quickly. I've understand the value of teaching oneself content thoroughly before teaching it to another.
