Materials Science Tutoring FAQ
Materials science is the study of the physical properties of compounds on multiple levels, and the ways that those properties can be applied. Building synthesized medications, metal alloys, plastics, and biomaterials has the potential to revolutionize multiple fields of study and modernize industrial procedures. The application and development of nanotechnology within materials science compounds the potential of the field. Essentially, students of materials science must hold the skill set to maintain their balance on the cutting edge of scientific innovation and discovery.
The field of materials science is currently blossoming, creating numerous new jobs and flaunting new applications in modern technology. The appeal of the field is understandable. We have never before had the technology to investigate structural properties at the atomic and molecular scopes. Materials science is derived from a combination of mathematics, statistical analysis, chemistry, and physics. All of these subjects that make up material are challenging subjects on their own, let alone in conjunction. Building theoretical models of material applications, developing synthesis methods and analytical procedures, and interpreting experimental results all fall well within the skill set of a materials scientist. If you find yourself struggling with any aspect of your studies, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a materials science tutor to help ensure that you get the assistance needed to meet your academic goals.
The wealth of information that materials scientists are expected to master can easily become overwhelming. Tutors are dedicated to making this information accessible to you. When you begin materials science tutoring, your instructor can evaluate your specific strengths and weaknesses in the field to develop lessons custom-tailored to your particular needs. He or she can cater to your unique learning style, presenting concepts in the most intuitive ways possible and making sessions effective. Considering the span of concepts covered in materials science, from thermodynamics to polymer chemistry to physiology, it is not uncommon for different students to have drastically different needs. Oftentimes, professors simply do not have the time to address these unique needs individually. With private tutoring, however, you can have the focused attention of a professional educator who is well-versed in the specific subject matter that you want to review. Working in a one-on-one setting allows you to receive immediate feedback and strategic advice from your tutor to maximize your performance on exams and in your research. In addition, these one-on-one lessons also allow you to control the pace of every session. If there are concepts that are hard to understand, you can have your private tutor spend extra time trying to explain these subjects in a way that makes sense to you. On the other hand, theories that you already know can be skipped over, ensuring that you spend your time efficiently.
When you study with a private tutor, you are able to learn at a time that is convenient for you. Your private instructor is happy to accommodate your busy schedule by meeting you whenever you are available. Additionally, you can choose to study in the privacy of your own home, in the corner of your favorite coffee shop, or anywhere else around your local area. No matter what your learning preferences are, your tutor will be happy to assist you in making your educational experience as comfortable as possible.
No matter your specific level of mastery or area of struggle, materials science tutoring can help you sort through your coursework. For more information about materials science tutoring, contact your local Varsity Tutors' educational directors and let us help you connect with a tutor today! Whether you want to meet for in-person tutoring, or learn through face-to-face online tutoring over the Internet, there is a tutor who is dedicated to helping you reach your academic goals.

Recent Materials Science Tutoring Session Notes
Today we went over cell cycle, mitosis, meiosis, DNA & RNA replication, protein synthesis, Mendel's basic genetic and Punnett squares. For every chapter, we would do the end of chapter questions together to ensure that the student understand the materials well. He felt more confident with the concepts.
For the first hour, the student and I went reviewed the remainder of his geometry review sheet. We then spent the rest of the time reviewing for his biology exam. The student noted that he scored a 94 on his most recent math test and that his grade is improving. He has a solid understanding of both math and biology, and I fully expect him to do well on his upcoming exams.
The student and I reviewed for her exam on Monday. We covered the respiratory system, the digestive system, and the circulatory system, as well as a review of cell respiration from glycolysis to the electron transport chain. We conducted an introduction to endocrine, which is her next unit.
The student worked on a project that he had for biology. The project was covering the life cycle of phosphate. He researched the subject and we discussed how he would lay out his poster. He filled out his worksheet covering all of the questions he had to answer on his poster and he wrote up the questions in paragraph form to paste on his poster. When I left, all he had left to do was to print and paste. We also reviewed his math homework. He finished his math homework while I was there and had it ready to turn in.
Began the student's review for his finals this session focused primarily on biology. Started with the first two sections of his review, creating sheets and study guides based on major points outlined on his final review guide.
I had the student use a systematic physiology approach to learn about each organ system in view of how it operates in cooperation with the rest of our body. I gave hypothetical instances where she would have to describe what system was out of balance, why it was out of balance, how the body would use its various organs to compensate, and when the body would know it had reached homeostasis. Organ systems covered in this lesson - all organs were taught, but some were emphasized more than others - includes the renal, vascular, cardiac, hepatic, GI, and nervous. Our next session will focus more on the endocrine and GI systems. She is doing well. No concerns.
