My varied experience, approachability, and talent and facility with languages make me a skilled tutor. I have engaged in tutoring in a wide spectrum of contexts. I have tutored in English while studying in France. I have tutored in French while living in the USA. I have tutored in English with dozens of international university students over many years. In addition, I ran an English tutoring business for 9 months out of my home in Japan while simultaneously teaching English classes for the town government in a public building. I have tutored 6 students with Professional Tutors of America, mostly in Math and English, occasionally branching over into other subjects.I speak French at a very high level and use it on a weekly basis in a professional environment. To be specific, I am required to join at least two conference calls per week of at least 90 minutes in length, conducted entirely in French, and must contribute status updates and presentation regarding my side of the business to the team in Paris. I have proofread and redacted hundreds of pages of material professionally translated into French as well as prepared and published technical translations of my own onto my company's website and Knowledge Base.My Spanish level is also high though not the same level as my French. I almost achieved a minor in Spanish. For more than two years I was a technical support agent for my company, and I was responsible for all the phone calls and email correspondence in Spanish, so there have been times I have used it on a daily basis at a professional level. As with French I have also served as proofreader for hundreds of professional translations of technical material as well as preparing written translations of technical documents to assist customers.I have lived in France and in Japan (just under a year in each) and have been acquainted with hundreds of internationals over the course of time, and with my teaching and professional experience, I believe I am an excellent fit for Varsity Tutors.

With a degree in Chemical Engineering I have learned many methods to problem solving and their real life applications in math, programming, and science. This allows me to explain material in the most basic way for anyone who might be struggling. I have a laid back approach when it comes to problem solving which allows for open discussion and mistakes which ultimately helps with learning.Having personally dealt with ADHD and Test Anxiety I am well equipped to help anyone also suffering from the same or similar issues.

I finished my PhD in Environmental Science in 2020 (at the Univ. of Windsor in Ontario, Canada), and completed a postdoc at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. Throughout college, I worked at a childcare learning center with all ages ranging from infant to school age (11 years old). Upon graduating college, I took on a 3rd grade teaching position at a high poverty, low income public school. Currently, I teach 1st and 2nd grade at a private school. I am finishing up 4 years of teaching and look forward to many more years. I have a strong passion to see children succeed, even when the odds may be against them. Academically, my passion is to teach children the joy of reading, and help them understand how far it will take them in life. I desire to see children not only succeed, but thrive. By advancing a child's education, children feel better about themselves and it brings me joy and fulfillment to be a part of that. It is of a great importance to me that children are taught to be well-rounded individuals - and their education is only the beginning! While I do love teaching reading, phonics and writing to students, I also love the world of math. Altogether, I feel it is important to foster a problem solving approach in the thinking of children.
