Hello, my name is Monika and I am an ecologist from Florida. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Earth and Environmental Resources Management and have my Bachelor's of Science in Zoology with a concentration in Environmental Biology. My forte is science, but I'm great with writing, reading, and math.As a quick background, I began tutoring during my undergrad as a math tutor for freshmen and sophomore students. I was then a teacher's assistant in graduate school for various environmental science courses for two years and absolutely loved the challenges and rewards of the job.

I am currently a senior at Saint Louis University and am studying to receive my Bachelors in Science in Biology and my minor in Public Health. During my college experience, I have been able to spend a lot of time volunteering and tutoring. I work as a tutor at the university for subjects in biology, chemistry and spanish. While I tutor in university level subjects, I also volunteer as an after school tutor for refugee students in STL, through Firm Foundations tutoring, so I work with younger students as well. I have always enjoyed tutoring since my high school years as I believe in the importance of spreading knowledge and giving everyone the help they deserve so they can all equally excel. As a biology major, I would have to say it is my favorite subject, however I enjoy spanish and statistics as well. I am looking forward to ACT tutoring as I am quite familiar with the exam and am experienced on ways to significantly improve test scores. Outside of the tough pre-med life, I enjoy sports such as softball, swimming and tennis. I am quite passionate about learning about other cultures. My sophomore year, I was able to study abroad in Spain and immerse myself in the Spanish culture. I have also learned a lot about Mexican and Latin American cultures through classes and have my own Indian culture I enjoy!

I am a middle school English teacher here in Las Vegas. I was educated in Connecticut where I started my education career at a special education behavioral school. I believe every student is a good student. Every child has the potential to make high marks. The secret is knowing how to engage the student and stimulate the student into continuing the learning on their own. I am well versed in many education techniques and tools. My past students have gone on to be successful in college and their new careers.

I am a junior on the pre-med track at the College of William and Mary who is pursuing a major in biology, and a minor in kinesiology and health sciences. Additionally, I self-study Mandarin and am striving to be able to use it abroad one day.I am comfortable with working with students of all ages, and am excited to help people reach their academic goals! My aim is to not only provide help to those who need it, but to also teach students how to better learn on their own (the higher your education goes, the more important this becomes!). While the old "catch a [wo]man to fish and they eat for a day, teach a [wo]man to fish and they eat for a lifetime" proverb may be a bit corny and overused at this point, it is still very relevant for continued academic success. It is always a fantastic idea to ask for help when you don't understand something, but it's important that you help yourself as much as you can as well.Outside of schoolwork I play the tuba in my college's Wind Ensemble. I learned how to play the euphonium/baritone in 5th grade. This gave me the foundation to learn the tuba in 6th grade, and I have been playing ever since! When told that I could not audition for the jazz band as a tuba player in high school, I self-taught myself trumpet and was able to join the group in addition to still playing tuba for the wind ensemble and marching band.When not studying or in rehearsal, I really enjoy being active and getting outdoors. I've started to get more into hiking over the past couple of years, and I have continued playing and watching sports ever since I was a little kid. Even though I played soccer throughout all of high school, baseball has my heart.

I love to teach and tutor others to be successful in their educational journey. I like to understand my students' necessities to give more guidance on those areas that they required the most

Besides my mother, my daughters and my late wife, I consider my best teachers (the greatest influences in my life) to have come from Bunny Land A-Cat-A-Me, Johnston Middle School, Bellaire High, Duke University, Stanford Law School and the Vancouver Film School. They pushed, inspired and taught me in richly different ways. They lead me to find joy in knowledge and fluency, in the process fanning a non-stop yearning to learn and to share.I have tutored Advanced Placement students, executives changing careers, and those who believe they can do better academically or on achievement tests. I have instructed lawyers on contemporary legal issues, taught middle and high school students how to craft screenplays, and coached law students in mock trial competitions and middle school basketball teams. I enjoy working with students on French, writing skills, essay editing, American History, LSAT prep, middle school math, geography, government and organizational skills.I treat each student individually, and tailor our sessions to his or her learning styles, and aspirations (and of course, those of their parents). If, as a team, we can achieve the goals we set, and enhance the student's enjoyment and mastery of their unique learning process, I will have done my job.

I have always loved making personal connections with students and helping them make daunting studies (such as math or test preparation) more approachable. My favorite part of my job is empowering students to be more independent learners and helping them develop confidence in their abilities.

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Theatre and completion of the premed track. I've been tutoring for six years in subjects ranging from Algebra to Spanish to Writing and many others. I find teaching so rewarding because not only can I help others with their studies, but often I learn something new, too!Effective learning stems from a true interest in the material and a desire to do well, and I have always been good at instilling my academic curiosity in others. Finding even one facet of a subject that really piques a student's interest can make them think of learning as an engaging, exciting endeavor instead of an onerous chore. Call me an idealist, but I think learning should be fun!Though I keep the tone of my sessions light, I do expect my students to put in the effort necessary to achieve their goals. With my guidance, my support, and their hard work, I am confident that I can help my students find success.When I'm not tutoring I keep myself busy with many other things. I love theatre, and I have performed in dozens of community, school, and professional productions in the past. I also adore animals. I volunteer at shelters, shadow veterinarians, and I even have eight cats and two dogs at home! In the time that's remaining, I like to read, hang out with friends, and swim.
