The day after a lesson or homework assignment, he'd ask someone to come to the whiteboard and quickly re-teach the content or go step-by-step through a problem. Each time, it really helped me understand the concept and all its nuances, and I believe that being able to teach a concept to someone else proves mastery of the subject.
