I am an Environmental Biology major and Writing minor. Using my two interests, I find it easiest to help students learn complicated topics by being able to explain them simply and in your own words. I find that this way of learning is the best way to gain a full understanding. Difficult problems often have multiple ways of solving them. Figuring out the best way for each student to solve a problem can make anyone successful. In the near future I plan on attending medical school, and I look forward to helping other students be able to succeed in subjects that I feel passionate about.

Academic coaching and tutoring study skills has been a passion of mine for over 15 years. I have a masters degree in Special Education. My daughter had me as her live-in educational therapist all her life and was diagnosed with a processing LD in middle school. She is a college sophomore now with a 3.87 GPA. I am a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Since I first tutored about six years ago, it has always been a passion of mine. Becoming a physician was no easy feat, and neither were all those years of school and standardized tests along the way! But I didn't do it alone. I had tutors help me every step of the way. Not only did they help me to boost my grades, but they provided me with academic confidence and mentoring, all of which made me realize that my greatest goals could be a tangible reality. Now I couldn't be happier in my career as a surgeon in training.I have ever since been "paying it forward," educating high school and college level students, and now medical students. The greatest satisfaction is seeing my students get that "ah ha!" moment when everything comes together, and then seeing them go on to accomplish what they always thought was impossible.Now that I have some free time while doing research, I'm excited to give students that same confidence and mentorship that my tutors gave me.

I received my BBA in Accounting from Southern Methodist University, and I am currently in the Master of Accounting program at the same university. I have not looked back since my first financial accounting course, and I greatly enjoy helping others better understand accounting. I know that just memorizing answers will get you nowhere in your accounting courses. I strive to help my students understand the why and how behind the answer so they can apply their knowledge to a greater range of problems.

I recently moved from Potsdam, Germany to New Haven, CT. I grew up and studied environmental sciences in Germany, worked and traveled a lot internationally and have taught languages and science at the university and non-academic level. I enjoy teaching and I particularly enjoy supporting students who want to learn my beautiful but sometimes just a little too confusing language.

Originally from Honduras, I moved to the United States at the age of thirteen. I did not speak any English at all. Nevertheless, I was determined to learn the new language as soon as I could. After two years of hard work, I became fluent in English. I went on to college and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in Education. Subsequently, I became certified to teach English and Spanish as well.I love teaching. I have worked as a Spanish teacher for about nine years. My first five years of teaching were in the public school system. Later on, I taught at a private school for four years. During those years of teaching, I also did a fair amount of tutoring. I have tutored students from middle school all the way up to professional adults.As a teacher, I love to make the subject fun to learn and relevant to my students. For that reason, I like to incorporate material outside of the textbook. I especially prefer to use realia such as newspapers, brochures, menus, bus schedules etc. in the target language. I enjoy giving my students hands on activities that they can never forget. Enthusiasm and being positive are two characteristics that I find indispensable in my teaching style.Finally, I do like to have a life outside of teaching. I love to travel. I am working toward finishing my PhD in Political Science and am hoping to tutor student while I am in the final stages of my dissertation. While finishing my PhD, I have been teaching a variety of courses in American Politics, Constitutional Law, and legal theory. Beyond the classroom, I have worked with many students, helping some better understand the course materials, while working with others to prepare for standardized tests such as the GREs and LSATs. While I tutor in a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about U.S. History and Government. I find that many students struggle with history and government in particular, and see it as a frustrating exercise in memorizing names and dates. In working with students, my goal is to dispel these notions, and to encourage and empower students, by showing them that the law is constantly written and rewritten, that political institutions are continually evolving, and that historical figures were dealing with the same issues and pressures that contemporary political actors face. I also have specific expertise in the area of legal writing which has aided me in preparing students for writing focused portions of standardized exams as well as improving their essay writing skills for high school and college courses. In my spare time I enjoy reading, crossword puzzles, running, rowing, and spending time with my wife and one-year-old daughter.
