I am here to help you have success in your mathematics classes! I have a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and a Master's of Teaching Mathematics in Secondary Mathematics. I have taught secondary math for four years, and I am excited to tutor in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, A.P. Calculus, ACT Math, and more. My teaching philosophy is to empower students to analyze mathematics problems and understand how a particular concept fits in to the mathematics framework.

My tutoring approach is one of coaching, mentoring, and helping the student understand exactly what level and detail of help that they need to get ahead. Combining the personal discipline learned during 20 years as a Naval Officer with the unique expertise learned in one-on-one communication with peers and sailors as well as my five children, I can help you or your child succeed. A Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, and a Math Minor help qualify me for tutoring in many subjects. My individualized tutoring methods also raised my step-son's Physics grade from a C to an A in one semester. I specialize in mathematics (basic arithmetic through calculus) but can help in many other subjects. Learning should be fun, but should also, at times, bring "Instant" results. I work to keep positive encouragement in every lesson, tutoring, or test preparation session. I speak fluent Spanish!

I have my bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Oklahoma and my MS Accounting degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. My favorite test is the LSAT because of its focus on logic and reasoning. Outside of test prep, I am passionate about history and literature.

My B.A. is from Duke University and I completed all non-dissertation requirements for the Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, which was then the 7th-ranked Economics Ph.D. Program in the U.S. I also taught macro- and micro-economics at La Salle and Drexel Universities. I was rated highly by the students. In fact, for a particular spring semester at La Salle, 25 students petitioned the university to open another section of my microeconomics course, as my sections were filled to capacity. As a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, I tutored undergrads and Wharton MBA students in their macro- and micro-economics courses. I bring to the table over 40 years of experience as an economist with the U.S. government, academia, and the private sector (including with a large multinational Canadian bank) in a wide variety of areas, including international trade, macroeconomics, industry issues, and an immigration program. Given my interest in teaching, I continued to train many others in my positions with the U.S. government, including 70 colleagues in my last position. I very much enjoy teaching and tutoring and seeing and helping others learn, grow, and develop. I realize that a good tutor/teacher is one who not only understands the subject, but can communicate it effectively, as well. My priority/goal is to help the student learn, and there are no "dumb" questions. (Anything is askable.) I also work to make it a pleasant, personable experience.

I firmly believe that the vast majority of students who believe they are "bad at math" have tragically internalized this identity without true justification. I have personally seen students of mine shed that persona and it is a special thing to witness.

I received my MBA graduate degree from Georgetown University and my Electrical Engineering Bachelors degree from San Diego State University. I worked for Sony Electronics for over a decade as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, leading hardware designs of newly introduced features of Sony's High-Definition televisions. I have also managed a privately-owned business. I have always been passionate about tutoring. For example, I tutored math, calculus and physics in college, and I volunteered in educating seniors in computer skills. I especially enjoy tutoring students who are interested in learning the subject themselves. Whether they are good at it is irrelevant as I will work very hard to ensure they have the right foundation to be confident and enthusiastic about the topic at hand. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, biking and playing the piano. I also enjoy meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds.
