By the end of high school, you have acquired many skills. After all these years of schooling, you are a far cry from the days when you were first learning to add single-digit numbers, use grammar properly, and write sentences consisting merely of subjects, verbs, and direct objects. However, you must not allow yourself to become complacent or to think that there is no work left to be done. Soon, college will be here, and you will be writing papers that are far more complex than those you have written before. Instead of allowing yourself to drift along without any guidance, contact Varsity Tutors. We can help you connect with a 12th-grade writing tutor to further sharpen your compositional abilities.
As you prepare for college-level coursework and entry into the workforce, it is critical that you not overlook the necessity of logical, well-formed expression in your writing. No matter what you choose as your undergraduate major or career path, you will be required to write papers of various genres in your future endeavors. Even science classes in university will require you to create well-crafted reports for your lab courses. In all of these cases, it will be assumed that you are able to express yourself clearly. Your professors and employers will expect you to have a decent grasp on writing conventions. Went over assignment description in detail. Talked about the requirements and made sure each part was thoroughly understood. Discussed topic ideas and wrote an abstract/proposal to submit to instructor by email. Next session, will review instructor's feedback, make necessary changes to the plan for the paper/project, and start work on annotated bibliography.
In this session, the student and I first went over the structure of the online class he would be needing help with. Following this, we went over a passage of Macbeth and discussed organization in writing. Lastly, we practiced writing outlines for papers, and applied it directly to a short answer question in his online class.
His analysis skills on passages are good.
We used a previous writing assignment to write a new paper. We spent time brainstorming arguments for the topic and developing these arguments. We also started to work on the introduction for the paper and the thesis statement. We will continue working on this paper next week. I also told the student that I will look for writing topics for college freshman writing classes so that we can use them to develop more papers.
We went over the student's personal essay which is due on Tuesday, August 12. She had written a strong essay overall, and she was able to identify a few areas that she could strengthen. We talked about ways to make the writing flow better in two areas.
The student had a strong working draft of a paper for her Crime Lit. class with comments from her teacher. We worked to address her teacher's feedback, and she left our meeting today with a turn-in ready paper!
