I began my career in diagnostic imaging, graduating from Mount Sinai School of Radiologic Technology in 1974. I worked in various areas, including interventional radiography, mammography, general radiography and fluoroscopy. Sonography became available for clinical use a few years later and I began training in that imaging modality as well.Throughout the years I worked at various clinical settings, hospitals, clinics, private medical offices. Each of these locations hosted diagnostic imaging students and throughout the years I was happy to mentor these students. I was happy to share my knowledge and experience with them to guide them on their way to becoming successful technologists.Later, I enrolled in the University of Hartford and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Advanced Medical Imaging. I then began teaching in the Radiography and Sonography programs at this institution, as well as Manchester Community College.I am passionate about helping students learn, not memorize, content so that they become true health professionals. I enjoy sharing my experience with students new to the field of Sonography and I take pride in teaching them to become knowledgeable and competent technologists, guiding them on their way to a rewarding career.

I pursued, what many would consider, a very non-traditional path following graduation from a high school for gifted students. My initial training was received while on active duty with the US Navy. There I learned to operate, maintain, and repair advanced electronic systems such as radio, radar, computers and cryptographic machines. Later during this period of my life, I went to school to learn Nuclear Power Plant Operation for nuclear submarines. While serving aboard various submarines, I took college courses through the University of Hawaii and the University of California. I also spent a great deal of time reading literary classics, as well as books on history, science, music and art. This reading allowed me to successfully complete the entire CLEP examination with scores in the top 10%.Following my discharge, I earned licenses and certifications from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as both an Operator and Senior Operator on several different types of nuclear units. Based on my previous work, training and college classes, I was awarded a Baccalaureate in Nuclear Engineering Technology in 1988 from Charter Oak College. l also attended college classes at the University of New Haven during this time, earning a Baccalaureate in Electrical Engineering in 1989 with a minor in Mathematics. I also have taken advanced graduate course in Business Administration and Regulatory Law as well as having successfully completed the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT exams.Starting in 1981, I provided training to selected individuals to prepare them for their Nuclear Regulatory Operator Examination. In this position, I delivered classroom and individualized instruction on math, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid flow and other technical areas related to nuclear power plant design, operation and control.I am currently tutoring in algebra, science, and math, which are my favorite subjects to tutor. I firmly believe that with guidance and a desire, every individual has the ability to overcome any hurdle they face.I enjoy working on home renovations, having won an award for the restoration of an 1840's Victorian. I also enjoy bicycling, snorkeling, scuba diving, and photography. But most of all, I enjoy spending time with family and friends over good food and wine in pleasant surroundings.

Throughout my tutoring journey, I've consistently guided my students towards achieving their desired scores, irrespective of their starting points. My expertise lies in effectively communicating and teaching the unique strategies needed for different sections of the ACT and SAT.One of the core elements of my tutoring approach is utilizing real exams from the past. This method not only familiarizes students with the actual test format but also offers an authentic practice platform. Moreover, I prioritize interactive sessions that foster active learning. By encouraging students to explore and understand concepts, they retain the knowledge more effectively and gain confidence in their abilities.Recognizing that each student has a unique learning style, I adapt my teaching methods to provide engaging sessions tailored to individual needs. I am committed to providing extra practice on specific concepts or sections where a student might be struggling, ensuring that no one is left behind and every area of potential difficulty is addressed. In addition to my dedication to understanding and catering to each student's learning needs, I offer extensive resources for practice. These include a wealth of real practice exams and extra exercises focused on specific concepts or sections that may pose a challenge. I am a graduate of the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) where I received my Bachelor of Science in Management with a secondary major in English, and a Masters of Science in Management | Masters of Business Administration with a Public Relations focus. I am currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching with UMUC. I have attained my education while working as a Federal government employee with the United States Postal Service and the Department of Health and Human Services having recently retired from government service. During my federal career, I have volunteered with the DC public school system as a reading mentor in the Everybody Wins! program and served as a parent volunteer during my daughter's K-12 years. I am currently a volunteer teacher at the Academy of Hope in Washington, DC teaching 'Reading and Work Life Skills' to adult learners who are taking courses toward attaining their General Education Diploma. Teaching has always been a passion and now I am able to pursue this goal as a retiree. Through my volunteer activities and now through my studies in the Masters of Arts in Teaching program, I value the hard task that teachers must perform each day but the reward at the end of the day is watching and seeing how learning has a positive effect on students. 'Each one teach one' is a part of who I am and through teaching I am able to have a positive impact on the future of tomorrow's leaders. In my spare time, I love to read and watch TV mysteries, walking just for the sheer joy of being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Score improvement depends on your starting point and study effort, but most students see measurable gains within 4-8 weeks of consistent preparation. Students who work with tutors typically improve their weakest sections most significantly—often 3-5 points or more on individual subtests. The key is identifying which sections (Math Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mechanical Aptitude, etc.) are holding you back and targeting those areas with focused practice and strategy refinement.
The ASVAB has 9 subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension, Assembling Objects, and Verbal Expression. Most students find Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge challenging because they require both speed and accuracy under time pressure. Paragraph Comprehension and Mechanical Comprehension also trip up many test-takers. A tutor can help you identify your specific weak areas through practice tests and develop targeted strategies for each section.
Timing is critical on the ASVAB because you have limited minutes per section. The most effective strategy is to practice full-length, timed practice tests repeatedly so you build speed without sacrificing accuracy. Tutors help you learn which question types to tackle first, when to skip difficult questions and return later, and how to avoid getting stuck on any single problem. With consistent timed practice, you'll develop an intuition for pace that lets you answer more questions correctly within the time limit.
Practice tests serve two critical purposes: they reveal which sections and question types give you trouble, and they build familiarity with the test format and time constraints so you're not caught off guard on test day. Taking multiple practice tests under real timing conditions helps you calibrate your pacing strategy and reduces test anxiety. Many students find that their practice test scores improve consistently as they review their mistakes and reinforce weak concepts—this is where a tutor's feedback on why you missed questions becomes invaluable.
Most students benefit from 4-12 weeks of preparation, depending on their starting score and target branch/job requirements. If you're scoring well already, 4-6 weeks of focused review may be enough. If you need to improve math or reading skills significantly, 8-12 weeks allows time to build foundational knowledge alongside test-specific strategy. A tutor can assess your baseline with a practice test and create a realistic timeline tailored to your goals and study schedule.
Test anxiety often stems from unfamiliarity with the format and uncertainty about whether you're prepared. The best antidote is repeated exposure: taking full-length practice tests until the format feels routine removes a major source of anxiety. Working with a tutor also helps because you get personalized feedback showing exactly what you can do well, which builds confidence. Additionally, tutors can teach you test-day strategies—like deep breathing, positive self-talk, and time management tactics—that give you concrete tools to stay calm under pressure.
For math (Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge), the strategy is to solve problems quickly without a calculator by recognizing common question patterns and using shortcuts. For reading (Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension), you need strong vocabulary and the ability to extract key information fast. A tutor can teach you section-specific techniques: for math, recognizing when to estimate or work backwards; for reading, how to skim strategically and identify what each question is really asking. Practice with instant feedback on why answers are right or wrong accelerates mastery of these strategies.
