I'm a 4th year college student at Stony Brook University working towards a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a minor in writing and rhetoric. I love helping other students enjoy what they are learning by providing support as a tutor! Students who struggle in their academics often just need a role model who can focus on their individual learning style and encourage them to utilize it -- which is who I try to be each day. My first two years at Purdue however I was an Aerospace Engineering Major. Through college I worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for General Chemistry. Currently I am a coach at Carmel Swim Club who loves photography, fantasy sports, reading, and writing. I worked at the Regis University Writing Center as a Writing Consultant for four consecutive years starting my sophomore year in college. In addition to my consultant position, during the fall semesters of 2011, 2012, and 2013, I worked as a teaching assistant for three different freshmen writing seminars. I also gained some valuable writing and group collaborating experience through my position as an assistant editorial board member for an international undergraduate philosophy journal called *Stance* and through the process of getting one of my English Literature papers published in another international undergraduate journal of literary criticism and research in the discipline of English (published in The Oswald Review).While I love to teach a variety of subjects, I am most interested in teaching subjects in writing, English, Philosophy, Politics, Law, or anything related. As my variety of college studies suggest, I am extremely passionate about learning and I continue to find new interests. I aspire to become a physician, especially a neurologist, since I am kind of obsessed with the brain and our nervous system. For the next year, I will be working part time as a scribe at the Northside Hospitals in Atlanta.Ever since high school, I have been a tutor in one way or another. I was a peer mentor at my high school???s writing center for three years in a row. Although I was not paid for my services, I enjoyed tutoring other students because teaching helped me expand my knowledge on the material, as well. That is when my interest in tutoring began. I kept tutoring in college as well with the athletic department and TRIO academic services. Through my experiences, I have grown as an educator, learning different tactics and strategies to help students expand their knowledge. I study the proteins that are involved in membrane fusion -- for example, when the sperm and egg cell membranes fuse together during fertilization. I have a Master's in Education and a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. I love working with students of all ages and do my best to make learning relevant and fun.
