Reading and writing are my favorite things to do, and I have been teaching middle and high schoolers how to do just that since 2005. My name is Katie, and I'd love to be your tutor for anything English Language Arts related!

With 31 years of teaching experience, I love helping students discover their passion for science and gain confidence in their abilities. My goal is to make challenging science concepts easier to understand by breaking them down into simple, manageable steps and connecting them to real-world examples. I graduated (PhD) in experimental Physics from Kansas State University. My several years of professional experience as an Instructor as well as a researcher have provided me with a broad view that is useful in assisting students with physics concepts and assignments. My teaching experience at the undergraduate level encompasses physics courses for engineering, science, and non-science majors. I got opportunities to teach intermediate as well as Bachelor level physics courses infusing innovative instructional strategies in a traditional lecture/laboratory format.I am very passionate about learning new concepts and principles of science and understand these principles in the context of the real-world situations. I want students to have that same passion so they can reach their true potential and not let academics stand in the way of a bright future. I believe the most valuable learning of physics comes when students are encouraged to solve problems using their own basic knowledge, understandings, and mathematical skills rather than being told to memorize a bunch of physics formulas or simply being given the answer. I believe the Socratic way of teaching: Instead of telling the answer directly; ask questions and more questions until students come up with their own answer. This is what I strive to do with all of my students. I tutor a broad range of science, but my strengths include physics and standard test of Physics which can make a huge impact upon a student's educational goals.My other hobbies include traveling, reading as well as running.

I've spent the majority of my life being a student of the financial realm; and to this day, constantly work to perfect my craft. I believe a lot of work done by financial professionals is noble, they have the ability to help others retire comfortably, protect themselves and loved ones against unfortunate circumstances, help others as well as many other goals they have. I believe there is a right way to do business and I strive to help others in their efforts to do business the right way. My expertise started long ago when I received my Bachelor's in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. During that time, I obtained my Series 7 and 66 licenses. Shortly after obtaining those licenses, I then obtained the Series 4, 24 and 53 licenses. To continue my pursuit of growth, I went on to earn my Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. A short time later, I enrolled at Kansas State University and earned a Master's degree in Personal Financial Planning. Recently, I've earned the Behavioral Financial Advisor (BFA) designation and the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) designation. I've worked in several industry roles from client service, back office roles, compliance, management, personal advising and planning and retirement consulting. When I'm not focusing on my craft I enjoy spending time with my family and am an avid college and professional football fan.

I am a graduate of Kansas State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I also have graduate degrees in Management Information Systems from Bowling Green State University and a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about Math. I have a strong desire to help students learn and succeed in their Math courses. I take pleasure in taking any opportunity that is available to me to help students succeed in their Math courses. I have tutored students in Math as a volunteer and also as a paid member of staff. I received my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics at Kansas State University. Through the years, I have worked in a variety of jobs working with children, with my most recent one being teaching children life and practical skills. My main focuses are Math and Test Prep. I truly believe that when taught right, everyone can build confidence and skill in these topics. When I'm not working, I'm usually drinking tea with my cats and reading a book, or hiking in a local park.

I was a former professor at Kansas State University and an instructor at University of Houston. I am passionate about learning and teaching. I am a graduate from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. I have worked professionally as a research assistant for KSU, a project manager for Cargill, and an auxiliary engineer with Black & Veatch. With recent experience in office, industry, and university, I am fully prepared to help students understand the most important information in a way that feels valuable to their goals.

I have enjoyed teaching mathematics since 1st grade and have taught University Mathematics for more than 10 years. I have a BS and a MS in Mathematics. Mathematics is not easy for most of the world. Lectures are not very entertaining and it is easy to miss one step in the boredom. Then , who wants to ask a question. I like the student who will ask that question. I like helping that student "see" and understand the missing part. What is your question?

I received my B.A. in Biochemistry from Kansas State University. There I was a member of Golden Key International Honors Society and received multiple research awards. I received my Ph.D. at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where I received several awards and fellowships as well as published multiple scientific papers. Currently, I am scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Throughout my educational career, I was always the person that classmates asked for help. I peer tutored throughout high school and college. I taught a Biology lab at the undergraduate level, and as a graduate student, I mentored many other students in science. I can make even the most difficult concepts easy to understand. I am extremely patient with students, and I know working with me will lead to higher grades. I am happy to help with any Biology or Chemistry courses. In addition, I can help with homework, lab reports, or science fairs.

As a current college student, I have tutored students in elementary school all the way up through the age of my current peers. Hello! My name is Rowan and I am an architecture student at Kansas State University, which I love! I graduated from Blue Springs South High School, where I ran the school's literary magazine. I have always had a passion for learning and exploration, and I am excited to help other students accomplish their goals. I believe that teaching should be tailored to how each individual student thinks and works, utilizing their strengths to help improve what they might be struggling with. I am here to help students not just with the content of the course but with the strategies for excelling in it. For most of my life, I've been a teacher of some sort. In middle and high school, I was an arithmetic and algebra tutor for underprivileged kids; in college, I volunteered in the math and writing centers; now, I'm teach ethics and logic classes in the philosophy department at UW-Madison. Teaching is the most important part of my life, and my role as an educator is what most defines my identity. I have no general guiding principle about teaching, other than that it isn't really useful to think in terms of such principles. Rather, I think that it's best to approach each student as having a distinct learning style and set of educational objectives, and thus, as representing a distinct set of challenges and rewards.

I am a Math Teacher with 17 years experience teaching middle school math, high school math, and a little English for Speakers of Other Languages. I am from the midwest, "where the women are strong and the children are above average". I went to Kansas State University for my undergraduate degree and to University of Central Missouri for my graduate degree in Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction. In 2011 I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelors of Science in the field of Neuroscience. As an undergraduate, I became really active in research, more specifically; I started investigating the effects nicotine has on learning and memory. By the time I graduated from Temple I had helped publish two peer reviewed journal articles. Both articles were published in the journal of Behavioral Neuroscience. Upon graduation, I was given the opportunity to teach classes on the research process and research ethics to undergraduate students. I also held workshops for these students on how to write a proper resume and personal statement for graduate school. This was only a six-week position but in that time my students conducted research in a laboratory on campus and wrote up their findings in a scientific research paper. At the end of the summer they presented their research at a conference in Atlanta, Georgia. I found it very rewarding to help my students go through this process in such a short period of time. I moved to Portland in 2012 because I was admitted into the Behavioral Neuroscience PhD Program at Oregon Health & Science University. After a year in this program, I realized that I missed working with and mentoring students and I decided to leave the program and pursue a Masters in Academic Advising from Kansas State University. I am currently a few months away from completing my masters degree and I am still living in Portland, Oregon (my degree is being completed online). I am currently working as a classroom assistant for a blind student at Portland State University. I help this student in the classroom and I tutor him outside of the classroom as well. I really enjoy working for the disability resource center and am very passionate about helping ALL students succeed in their academic endeavors. I believe that students all learn differently and what really helps one student learn a concept may confuse a different student. As a tutor, I try to assess how my students learn best and work off of their learning style. I also believe in working off of students' strengths. For instance, if a student struggles with writing argumentative essays, I will start off by giving him or her an essay about a topic they are really passionate about. This way they can see that they can actually like the writing process. Once we establish that they can actually do the task I will ask them to write about something that they are not as familiar with or something that does not interest them as much. I think it is really important to not treat all students the same when it comes to teaching because everyone thinks differently! I tutor a wide assortment of subjects: Elementary/Middle school level math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, College level Statistics, Middle School/High School/College level English, college writing, ESL Writing/Grammar, Neuroscience/Psychology, and High School and Middle School science. I really enjoy teaching students about Psychology and the brain because I personally find it to be fascinating! I also love to help students with writing because I find it rewarding to see their progression over time. It makes me really happy when I see students' developing more complex arguments after just a few tutoring sessions. As far as my hobbies go, I am really interested in reading, writing, bowling, miniature golf, swimming and going to professional sporting events!

A native of Wichita, Kansas, I have studied music and German for twenty years. I received my doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Music Composition with a minor in Musicology (Music History). Previously, I received my master's degree at UW-Madison in Music Composition and my bachelor's at Kansas State University in music with an emphasis in Music Composition and Piano Performance with a minor in German. I have studied composition with film and video game composers, Pulitzer Prize winning composers, and I have worked with Grammy winning and nominated artists. Since graduating, I have been commissioned to compose several works for ensembles throughout the United States. In my teaching, I am passionate about helping students to learn and grow their skills in their field, whatever their interests. I tutor in all types of music composition, music theory, music history, German, and more. I am one semester away from finishing my Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois Springfield. I have been teaching high school for five years and LOVE my job and working with students! I have been a professional art teacher since 2007. I have taught in many different settings including private school, public school, preschool, and day camps in Kansas. I also taught students English online in China. I received a Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 2007 from Kansas State University and a Master of Arts in Visual Art Education in 2012 from the University of Kansas. I live with my two sons Logan (age 8) and Harry (age 5), my husband Jason, my cat Gus, my dog Max, bearded dragon Rex, and many many plants!I am also a ceramicist. I am fascinated by exploring different textures on the clay. I throw planters on the pottery wheel and build from slabs. I have a studio that I work from in my home. I like taking hikes on nature trails and doing yoga in my spare time. I also love hanging out with my sons and pets!I enjoy creating meaningful, creative experiences for my students in which they can make discoveries. This allows each student to feel involved and empowered in their own learning.

I would like to use my engineering background to help empower students. In addition, I have been teaching for a year now. This has included different cultures and age groups which will enrich the student's learning experience. I have taught reading, grammar, science and math to 5 years old to 18 years old plus professionals over the age of 20. I am certified as a TEFL instructor.

I have just defended my master's thesis on social behavior in a species of bird called the Golden-winged Manakin (a relative of the "Moonwalking Bird" on YouTube). Through my master's program, I have three years of experience as a teaching assistant. I've taught freshman-level biology and zoology labs and held office hours to help students with population ecology classwork.I think that the best ways to learn new material involve tackling concepts and the connections between them from different angles. I try to help students by presenting the material from different sides and letting them turn it around in their head and see it different ways. I've found this approach helpful both in teaching and in my own studying. I love teaching and learning, and I'm excited to help you do well in your own academic career!
