I believe that every person has the ability to succeed. They just need the opportunity and support to do so. I hope that with my support and the utilization of clients' personal interests and skills we can work together to be successful. As Einstein says "Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

Hello Prospective Student,Embarking on the journey of education can be an exciting and equally anxiety provoking endeavor. There are many exams to take, projects to complete, and deadlines to meet. This is in no way an easy journey but it is a worthwhile one. A journey that will see you grow into your true potential. Whenever you gain a new piece of understanding of the world around you, your perception of the world forever changes, you see things you could not see before. This is a magical process; my life is dedicated to facilitating this process for others.I began my own journey of higher education with the Biological Sciences. During my third year of college I constantly found myself in a position where I was helping my peers understand the material and I realized that I thoroughly enjoyed doing this. I began working as a tutor at my college and then worked as a teaching assistant in the Gross Anatomy and Cell Biology Labs. From there I went to medical school in Brooklyn, NY where I am currently a fourth year medical student in line to receive my MD in 2022. During medical school I continued developing my passion for teaching. Running tutoring sessions for my peers and underclassmen, organizing a medical education and exposure program for high school students known as HPREP, creating educational materials in the form of video demonstrations, and eventually being hired as an adjunct professor of Gross Anatomy for the Occupational Therapy program at Downstate Medical Center. I am currently in the medical education track at my school and in training to become a full-time faculty member after graduating. My teaching style is focused on meeting the student where they are. I always begin assessing the current knowledge base and level of understanding so I can have a good idea of where to start. From there we will work together and I will adapt my teaching style according to how the student best assimilates knowledge. I take pride in being adaptable and flexible.Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I would be excited to obtain the opportunity to work with you.Ash

I am a graduate of Rockhurst University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in English Literature. Upon graduating, I became certified to teach both elementary education (grades 1-6) and English Language Arts (grades 5-9) in the state of Missouri. I have spent the past two years teaching seventh grade reading and writing, and I have loved every minute of it! Not only do I love helping my students understand new concepts in my subject areas, but I also really enjoy sharing literature, both classics and new fiction, with them in hopes it will foster a love of reading. I believe in the power of literature to spark critical thinking and help students make meaningful connections to their lives and the lives of others. It may come as no surprise that one of my chief hobbies is reading; I try to read fifty new novels every year, many of which I can then recommend to my students! I tutor a broad range of subjects, most notably English, Literature, and ACT/SAT Test Preparations, but regardless of what I am tutoring, my teaching philosophy and style stems from building relationships with my students. While I have a great innate desire to help the next generation learn and succeed, I realize that the first step to doing so is getting to know my students and their individual needs. Only then can I create truly meaningful, relevant, and applicable lessons and tutoring sessions that will help them learn and grow. My passion is to help students realize their potential as life-long learners and help them succeed as they navigate their educational paths.

At both my undergraduate and graduate institutions, almost all of my homework consisted of reading texts or writing papers. Therefore I have continuously enhanced my English composition skills. I know how to read and analyze texts quickly without losing content. Reworking information I've read together with my own thoughts is now second nature to me. I make my writing particularly clear by my impeccable understanding of English grammar, which I gained through extensive practice and from studying four other languages (French, German, Latin, Ancient Greek).
