I am a teacher with over 20 years of experience. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a focus on Language Arts, Social Science, and Music from Northern Illinois University. I received my Masters of Music Education from VanderCook School of Music in Chicago. While I have spent most of my career teaching Music, I am passionate about Reading, English, Literature, and History as well. I am a lifelong learner and hope to impart my love of learning on all the students that I tutor. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, singing and playing guitar, hiking and biking, and spending quality time with friends and family.

I have been a tutor before I was ever paid to do it. A straight A high school student, I was always asked to help my brother with his studies, which didn't come as easily to him. When I was a peer tutor at Harvard University, I discovered how enjoyable and rewarding it was to help other people understand our school's Freshman computer requirement and how I could use my knowledge, skills, and tricks to help them break down and overcome a daunting goal.I was an officer in the U.S. Navy, where I learned to lead and teach people from all walks of life, and also saw first-hand how adding inspiration and encouragement helped our whole team do better and feel better about it. Since then, I've worked primarily as an entertainer, but I have remained a tutor, as well, bringing the empathy and humor that make me a successful singer, actor, and comedian to GMAT and SAT classrooms and private tutoring. I've been fortunate enough to be able to do some interesting things in my life, and I have meet so many amazing, diverse people along the way. Everything I've learned along the way informs my tutoring. I am not only a teacher, but also a coach and cheerleader. I love seeing people succeed and knowing that I helped. I am a certified teacher with a master's degree in Education which I received from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. My specialization is in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), but I also teach elementary school subjects. I studied Elementary Education and Anthropology in my undergraduate studies. Since I have a love for travel and learning about other cultures, I have lived and worked in three foreign countries; I taught English to university students in Kyrgyzstan through the United States Peace Corps and high school students in Guadalajara, Mexico and studied German while working as an au pair in Germany. While working on my master's degree, I taught adult immigrants in Flushing, Queens who wanted to improve their English. After graduating with my master's degree, I taught academic ESOL, essay writing, and adult continuing education at a city college in Queens, NY. Following that, I taught ESL to predominantly Egyptian, Arabic speaking, students at a high school and elementary school in New Jersey. I enjoy working with students of all ages. Working one one one with students is especially rewarding. Throughout my teaching career, I have provided private lessons to students in standardized tests, reading, writing, study skills and math. I believe in student-centered, hands-on learning. I help all of my students with study skills and overcoming barriers to study such as vocabulary and skipped gradients. I have traveled throughout Europe and love to learn about other cultures and lands. I also enjoy interior design, cooking and traveling. I am a student at the Honors College at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Business Analytics & IT. I am currently a graduate student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. When I am not studying, I enjoy practicing yoga, meditating, and hiking. I also like to tutor. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, helping classmates with homework, and I made a job out of it when I started college. As I majored in math, I tutor subjects like calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. I also tutor high school physics and some college physics up to classical mechanics. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Education 1-6 with a Mathematics Concentration from Niagara University. I also received a minor in Sign Language. I continued my education at Niagara to achieve my Master's Degree in Special Education 7-12. I have been teaching in a classroom for 3 years but have been working in a classroom atmosphere since 2012. My favorite subject to tutor is math. I really enjoy Sign Language and continue to teach it to my current students. I believe that students should have a hands on learning experience and want to be motivated. Tutoring sessions should be more student-led so that they are getting the experience necessary to achieve the grades they want to.

I also graduated from the University of California Hastings Law School with a J.D. and a concentration in International Law. Before attending college and law school, I basically ate, breathed, and slept debate and forensics. I then coached policy debate and extemporaneous speech in college in addition to tutoring high school students through the "A Better Chance" organization. During my college years, I also became a passionate advocate for human rights, danced and choreographed with a modern dance troupe and had several plays produced. In law school, I continued my human rights advocacy work, studied at the San Francisco Academy of Ballet and worked as both a research assistant to numerous professors and as a teaching assistant in many classes. I also tutored students in PSAT, SAT Verbal, ACT, AP History, English and Literature preparation through "Ivy West" while I was living in the San Francisco Bay area.Now that I am living in Minnesota, I am thrilled to be working with Varsity Tutors.
