We took the alphabet marker boards and arranged them in alphabetical order on the floor before we began our lesson for the day. We then worked on recognizing and writing more letters of the alphabet. I will be returning some alphabet story books to the library and getting new ones for our next sessions.

We went over composition today. We talked about the importance of standardization of many elements in the submission process in school and academia. We then talked about fiction and nonfiction and how literary criticism deals with both. We then had an in-depth discussion of the content in the readings. We discussed strange words and sentence constructions. I assigned additional chapters for the student, and we ended the session.

I did a session with Student 1 and Student 2 today. For Student 1's sessions, we reviewed spelling and grammar. We began with word dictation (I said a word, he wrote it down). He then worked on putting them into alphabetical order. Tomorrow we will continue reviewing this spelling list and define the words specifically. We also reviewed the parts of a sentence. After reviewing nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and superlatives, we played two word games so that he could practice. He was able to apply what we reviewed. For writing, we reviewed basic sentence structure (subject, verb, predicate). We started with a writing prompt to review the concept and make sure that he was writing in complete and descriptive sentences. We also talked about the importance of introducing the writing with a beginning sentence too. We also began to brainstorm a persuasive letter that he will finish tomorrow. I spent the session with Student 2 working on the following: Spelling/Grammar: We went over 10 new vocabulary words. She also put them in alphabetical order, which will help her with her writing as she begins to use the dictionary more to check her words. We also read a passage out of a text and reviewed parts of a sentence. I then went over how she could use adjectives and adverbs to enhance the fiction writing she is doing. We did a quick revision session of her writing so that she could practice. For her fiction, we also discussed more of the deep dive we are taking into character development, with a focus on ambition in the character.
