The focus was on main idea and details. We also touched on context clues. We continued to use strategies: visualizing and making connections, underlining key words in the questions and underlining answers in the story then numbering the answers with the question number. Finally making sure that the answers chosen match what was underlined in the story.

Tutoring review by Kalie in Everett, WA
The student finished the homework that I gave her last time and we went over the questions that she missed. She does well with most reading comprehension passages, but says that she struggles with making the decision as to which answer is right. I gave her a 15 minute practice test, which she had difficulty finishing. She missed a few of the questions. We discussed her strategy and realized that she does much better when she reads the questions before she reads the passage. I gave her a few passages to practice with before our session tomorrow.

The student and I read through an almost finished draft of his business law paper. I highlighted a few points that needed clarifying. We discussed the paper's organization and conclusion and went over the nuts and bolts of citation. At the end of the session, the student was preparing to draft a conclusion, reorganize the paper, and add citations.

Tutoring review by Richard in Everett, WA
The student continues to impress me with his understanding of biology and chemistry. We talked about carbohydrates and specifically types of monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. We also discussed the importance of water for living conditions. In chemistry I was able to bring answers to the questions he had from our last session. After reviewing these questions we used the syllabus to review topics covered in his class and the objectives that should be known. We discussed the electromagnetic spectrum, ionization energy, atomic radii, nuclear forces, and electron configurations. He did remember a lot, but there were certain topics that he told me he didn't understand when he left class. I was able to answer those questions and then continue reviewing the other materials until he understood them.
