I have been teaching and tutoring, and mentoring students for over thirty years. I've taken a lot of classes too. And in my experience, there are two types of teachers. I graduated in 2020 with an Economics degree from Middlebury College, a liberal arts campus in Vermont. In my path to college, I successfully studied for and passed a variety of AP and SAT exams. While completing my major and additional coursework in college, I have strengthened my academic writing, reading, research, and quantitative reasoning skills, picking up R, STATA, and ArcGIS along the way.I strongly believe that every student learns differently and that they should be able to seek the help they need to take full advantage of their learning opportunities. If I can help a student master a subject, pass an exam, discover their talent in a subject, or get into their dream school, I'd love to do it!

I recently graduated from Juanita High School from the Cambridge program and am currently a student at the University of Washington, and am pursuing a bachelor's in architecture. However, seeing as I have just started my college journey, I will only be tutoring French, German, and high school level subjects for the moment. I moved to the United States from Germany around 11 years ago and attended a bilingual French American elementary and middle school. I also attended German lessons outside of school. French and German are my native languages, but I have also completed both the AP German and French exams, as well as the French DELF B2 and the German DSDII C1 level exams, and am ready to help tutor in those subjects. I want to help students not only learn the languages but find a passion in learning about them and the cultures of the countries in which they originated. I strive to help encourage students to discover their learning styles and help them find effective methods for studying.

I graduated from University of Washington majoring in Economics and Applied & Computational Math Science. Since graduation, I taught at a Korean International High school and at an elite Korean private International Baccalaureate (IB) high school where they emphasized overseas university placements.I taught AP Economics (Micro & Macro) for 2+ years, IB Economics SL/HL for 2 years, IB Business & Management HL for 2 years, and Pre-calculus for 2 years.During my years of teaching, using real world examples played a tremendous role when teaching new theories to the students. Furthermore, I believe in repetition when it comes to test preparations so that students can become comfortable with not only the format but also with generating answers within a short time frame.I enjoy traveling, exercising (weight lifting), reading biographies, and playing Starcraft (once in a Bluemoon).

Few things in life are more rewarding than the ability to help and serve others. This is especially true in the field of learning as by learning we progress. The ability to share knowledge is a primary means by which we can help others to progress and achieve. I have been teaching and tutoring, in some form another, for many years; whether it be work with the Boy Scouts as a youth leader, tutoring academically, or teaching airline pilots as I do today I've always found it tremendously fulfilling. That is why I wish to continue this life long endeavor by tutoring through Varsity Tutors and help others to achieve, and exceed, their academic goals as well.I'm a retired USAF pilot currently employed as an instructor pilot for the Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company. I've been instructing, both military and civilian, for over 30 years and enjoy it immensely. I've had the opportunity to work with people of many cultures and travel extensively; I've been to every continent multiple times, even Antarctica. I have two masters degrees, an MA in Information Management as well as an MS in Aeronautical Science and Aviation Safety. My undergrad degree is a BA in zoology. I'm currently awaiting acceptance to Clemson for an MS in Biology Instruction and am doing a math review leading to a certificate in Math Theory from Indiana. I recently finished a certificate in Weather Forecasting from Penn State. As I'm sure you can tell, I love to learn and consider learning a life long endeavor.

I attended Stanford University for my B.A., earned an M.M. (Master's of Music) from the University of Washington in 2012, and am now completing my D.M.A. at UW as well. All of my degrees are in music composition, a field that allows me to interpret and describe ideas that intrigue me in creative ways using sound. That said, I still have a secret crush on math and science, and I love exploring and analyzing languages and the written word. (In fact, much of the music I have written has been inspired by literary or linguistic concepts.) I have taught courses in music theory, history, and composition at the University of Washington, and I have tutored students of all ages in school subjects ranging from biology to social studies. I especially like working through math and standardized test questions since I enjoy puzzles and problem solving though helping someone to express their feelings and opinions in writing can also be very rewarding. In my spare time, I am an avid home cook and runner. I also love crossword puzzles and spicy food.I feel that the most valuable aspect of education is learning how to think in different ways and approach problems from various perspectives. Even if a few years from now, you cannot quite remember how to graph an equation, at one point you thought through how to present information in a form that is easier to visually interpret. The exact meaning of "prestidigitation" might elude you some day, but if you ran across this word on the SAT or the GRE, you likely had to learn how to infer tone and meaning using limited information. These skills are valuable and likely what you will retain throughout your life. This is why I care about helping people think about problems not just solve them. I care about showing them the paths to solving problems or writing essays so that they can walk them themselves rather than rummaging around in their memories for disconnected facts and formulas. I do not just want to give you the car keys--I want to teach you how to drive.

I am a graduate of Washington State University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language, specifically focusing on Spanish Language and Cultures. After graduating, I was accepted into Washington State's Masters in Teaching program where I continued my studies focusing to obtain a teaching certification for grades 8-12 Spanish Language Education.Since finishing my collegiate career I have been teaching high school Spanish on Seattle's East side. As a teacher, I have very much enjoyed me experience when it comes to tutoring students, especially students who may be struggling with the confusing grammar concepts of the Spanish Language. That being said, while I have an appreciation and the skills in writing, ESL education, and English grammar, I am most passionate and excel the most at tutoring Spanish (Levels 1-4).When it comes to language teaching, I believe it cannot be rushed. I try to ensure my students understand each component of the language fully until moving onto the next. Language learning builds on itself, and if one gets caught up and confused within the first weeks, there is no doubt trouble will arise down the road. I like to ensure my students feel confident each step of the way in order to see success in the long run.During my free time, I love to travel and have spent time in Spain, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and Mexico studying the Spanish language and submersing myself in its different cultures. Additionally, I am an avid WSU Cougar fan, love to paint, and enjoy the sun, water, and mountains of Washington any way I can.
