I come from a place where education was at the top of the priority list. A place where you can see many people struggle day-to-day, yet still manage to keep a smile on their faces. Working to empower children is my passion. Young citizens have more opportunities for success than ever before. I believe we must build hearts of purpose to create passionate learners, responsible decision-makers and collaborative community members who will impact the corners of our world.I am currently a highs school science teacher and I have four years of teaching experience. I have a master's degree in teaching and an undergraduate degree in biology. At my current position, I have created the curriculum for chemistry, biology, environmental and physical science classes. This experience taught me how to create meaningful lessons that are rooted in real-life experiences. I encourage 21st-century skills by creating lessons that are rooted in real-life phenomenons with inquiry-based, hands-on experiences that are accessible to a varied amount of learners. All students are capable of brilliant things and watching students not only learn new concepts but also discover new ways to receive, gather and process information inspires and fuels my love of teaching.

I received my Bachelor of Science from Western Washington University and my Master of Science from the University of Oregon, both in chemistry. After graduation, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic chemist before starting a PhD program. While I ultimately decided not to complete my doctorate, I did discover I had quite a passion for teaching chemistry. I then started teaching test prep courses and tutoring students, and later I started teaching general and organic chemistry at Seattle Central College. Tutoring especially appeals to me because breakthrough moments don't always occur while class is in session. Every student has a slightly different way of wrapping his or her head around a given concept. By engaging students one-on-one, I can get a feel for their specific situation and how they relate to a given topic, and modify my teaching style and examples to fit their needs. In my spare time, I am an avid homebrewer and I also enjoy sports, video games, and being outdoors.

I love to learn, and I love to help others love learning as well. I have been working with students from age 4-adult for the past 20+ years, including 13 years of work at the university level. While my bachelors, masters, and doctorate are all in music, I also have experience working with elementary and middle school students in English, math, and science. A lover of text and poetry, I also enjoy helping students to find their writing voice.I believe that learning is one of the most vulnerable activities we can engage in, so I am committed to working to create a brave space where students can take risks and be safe to fail.

Born and raised in the Lilac City of Spokane, Wa. I'm a speculative fiction writer with a passion for storytelling and niche pop-media.The majority of my undergraduate at Evergreen State College I spent fixated on the practice of storytelling in theory, in practice as applied to craft, and for the landscape of multimedia arts.Whether it's difficulties knowing where to start with an idea, turning that seed into an outline, working through revising an essay or specialized assistance in reading narrative fiction, I'm more than happy to be of help!
