My educational background is in English/ESL education and intercultural communication, and I have a vested personal interest in English grammar and writing. These are, of course, the subjects I tutor - ESL, English grammar, and writing.. I graduated with my BA in Intercultural Studies from Moody Bible Institute in 2012, with an unofficial minor in education. I received my TESOL certification a year after graduating from i-to-i, an online TESOL certification company. I am passionate about helping students not only to improve their skills but also grow in appreciation for language and writing as a powerful form of self-expression and as a creative outlet. I am especially passionate about applying those principles in cross-cultural settings and helping students from all over the world grow confident as students, writers, and English-speakers; thus, my favorite subject to tutor is ESL.My past tutoring escapades have taken me around the globe; I spent several months in South Africa and Swaziland teaching English to preschool and elementary school students. I also worked as the manager for my college's writing center, which involved tutoring many college students from various backgrounds. Some of those students came on a walk-in basis - others I met with regularly. I have also taught ESL online for almost three years. All of these have been rich and rewarding experiences.In addition to English my educational background has also taken me into theater; I grew up performing in musical productions and, after high school, continued to teach and direct shows for Christian Youth Theater (CYT). I love to sing, dance, and act on stage. These years of theater fostered my creativity, which plays a large part in my tutoring philosophy: being a creative and energetic person, I love finding ways to effectively communicate and capture a student's interest, building on their learning style and unique personality. It's a mouthful, I know, but I hope that this degree will help me achieve my goals of being a helper. Management is all well and good, but I truly love working with people and helping them achieve their goals, whatever it may be. Before attending WSU, I went to Spokane Falls Community College where I worked as a peer tutor for math subjects approved up through Calculus I, and also worked one quarter as a Writing Tutor. I loved being there and noticing as the students started to understand the subjects more and more and needed my input less and less. That is my ultimate goal with any student - to impart my knowledge and passion in such a way that they understand the subject matter and eventually have no need for me anymore!Outside of tutoring, I am a huge nerd. I love Japanese anime, and attend anime conventions in my spare time. I am very loyal to Nintendo and am currently counting down the time until the next Legend of Zelda game comes out. I also love to read, write, and cuddle with my two Halloween bookend kitties.

I am English Teacher with a Master's Degree from Eastern Washington University in English with an Emphasis in Literature and Writing. I am also a published poet and essayist and have a great deal of love for both. As a teacher, I believe that it is my job to facilitate the deepening and interconnecting of the students' ideas with previously established and/or new models of thinking to create an epistemological space where the discursive creation of meaning is possible. Of course, I am also here to help students develop the vocabularies and writing skills necessary to articulate rich and complex ideas.

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Washington in Seattle, and I have just begun my Master of Teaching program at Gonzaga University, specializing in Secondary Spanish and Social Studies education. I have known that I've wanted to be a teacher since I was little, and tutoring gives me a great opportunity to practice my teaching skills in a personalized setting. I understand how challenging it can be to start learning Spanish in middle school or high school, since that's when I started learning it myself, but I have many effective (and fun!) techniques that make Spanish a breeze.

In my professional career I have developed and delivered many different types of training to professionals and students from all walks of life.
