I currently work for a healthcare company as an engineer. I studied chemistry in my undergraduate studies and organic chemistry when I attended graduate school. I have tutored and taught several undergraduate chemistry courses, including: general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and high school chemistry. I absolutely love teaching students. I most enjoyed when students understood the concepts and could apply them to new problems. I believe it is most important for students to understand the concepts, rather than memorize specific formulas, reactions, or mechanisms. While in college, I tutored for almost four years in classes ranging from high school algebra to college level calculus, and in a variety of environments, including tutoring in small groups and online.I enjoy tutoring math because it is often one of the most frustrating subjects for students. I like to show students that math doesn't have to be painful. In order to do this, I will often start with a basic problem that has an intuitive answer, identify the concept behind the problem, and then expand the concept in order to solve more complex problems. Teaching this way also provides students with a blueprint to independently solve problems in the future. In this way, I think it's important to teach students how to be more self-sufficient in the learning process, and that includes relaying tips for taking tests and managing one's time.In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, watching the Portland Trailblazers, and cooking.

I attended Beloit College (Go Bucs!) in Beloit, Wisconsin where I received my BA in History and submitted an Honors Thesis. The year after graduation I spent teaching English to university students in Kaifeng, China. I then went back to school and got my Masters in Communication from Hawaii Pacific University. While pursuing my Masters I was a Math and Reading tutor, and I worked for my university's magazine, writing and editing articles for quarterly publications.I tutor SAT, History, Math, Reading, Writing, English Literature. History is definitely the subject I enjoy tutoring the most, as it was my major and a continued passion of mine. I'm even in the process of writing a historical novel!I grew up in Hawaii, and I love being outdoors with my wife and two dogs. We all live in Spokane, WA now, where the scenery is beautiful and there's an always adventure awaiting around every tree and mountain.
