I enjoy the learning process and finding new and innovative ways to teach and learn. I believe that there are different ways that people learn and my goal is to figure out how an individual learns best so that they can take on any course or content they studying. I have worked with students in various grade levels and with students who have special learning needs. I have a strong background in reading, writing, and math at the elementary and middle school level.Additionally, I have had an in home daycare business that had a curriculum in place for younger children, particularly those children that were not able to have the opportunity to go to preschool. School age children that I worked with received homework tutoring assistance from me. When it comes to teaching strategies, I feel that it is pertinent to teach to the student. Direct instruction is a strategy that I have used, but differentiated instruction I feel is equally valuable when tutoring and teaching students. Each student learns and processes differently. I'm an undergraduate at the University of Puget Sound majoring in Hispanic Studies and Molecular Biology. I love to make music and play the piano, marimba and timpani. When I tutor, I focus on putting specific skills into the framework of the overall subject - giving the student a more broad, yet detailed understanding!

In high school I felt at home in art class, and discovered a passion and talent for the arts. Upon graduation I received the Rhode Island School of Design award for artistic excellence while maintaining high academic standing and being on the honor role. I opted out of a math class as a senior in order to take a double english class my senior year in high school because I love reading and writing so much. I went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Art's degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, IL. I studied a wide variety of subjects including painting, drawing, social studies, writing including advanced poetry and fiction, photography, philosophy, psychology. I have lived in different places across the country and like connecting with people from a variety of backgrounds. People describe me as having a bubbly friendly personality and am very understanding. My teaching approach is one of humility - as a servant of those who I am trying to uplift, instruct, and help. I put myself in those shoes where I use to be, and my goal is to share what I know and do all I can to help others achieve the level of learning, and excellence that they can. I am writing a novel, and am working to publish a collection of poetry writing. In my spare time I like to bake and cook, and spend time outdoors.

I am originally from the Chicago area, but after graduation I moved to London, UK and taught grades K-5 in the local schools. When I returned to the US I began work with a refugee organization as a tutor for a 4th grade student from Somalia, and I realized how much I love tutoring in literacy and ESL. Studying a topic that combined many different sciences allowed me to spend time learning as much as I could about these fun subjects. During graduate school I had the opportunity to teach classes in my department as well as work with high school students in my research lab and I realized that working with students as an instructor and mentor was both exciting and fulfilling. Now that I've finished my degree I want to take the time to find a career where I can continue to work with all kinds of people and see how to pass on a love of learning.
