As a foreign MD graduate I had the opportunity in different international schools over the world to teach and tutor both Arabic and French languages for students from elementary to high school levels.

I received my dual bachelor’s degrees at the University of Southern California in Neurosciences and Biological Sciences. Since graduation, I have worked for two years at a USC research institute; in that time, I also developed a love for teaching. In the course of discovering this affinity, I have taught programs from the Neighborhood Academic Initiative at USC for underserved high schoolers to my most recent employment at Kaplan, Inc. Although I have extensive experience in managing and working in a classroom, I prefer to work with students one-on-one; it is more rewarding for both of us to discover strengths and weaknesses, find how our teaching and learning styles match, and see improvement. The time I have spent taking and tutoring students for standardized tests has only refined my understanding of what students need and have the most trouble with. Although I enjoy and have experience teaching a vast array of subjects (especially during my time at a graduation lab at Irving High School), I am especially drawn to the sciences, math and English. The love for the former two stems from years of education and interest in the sciences, and the latter harks even further back to my addiction to reading that I acquired in elementary school. I am a voracious reader, especially science fiction and fantasy, and many have told me that my affection for the language is infectious! My hobbies outside devouring literary delicacies include singing, playing the guitar, basketball, running, boxing and hiking.

It all started with the "Book Buddies" program at my local library on Long Island. Every Wednesday, after school, I would teach struggling elementary school readers how to love reading by helping them finish books and select ones of interest to them. Since then, I have continued to invest a lot of time in tutoring and teaching. In high school, I volunteered my time as a member of the National Honor Society and homework help with with my five younger siblings has always been my responsibility. Now as an undergraduate at The Macaulay Honors College at The City College of New York, I tutor at the Math Center and am enthusiastic about tutoring with Varsity Tutors! What differentiates me from other tutors is my accommodating teaching style and adaptability. For those who cannot stand the subject they are struggling with, I show them the subject's relevance in their life. For those who need more in depth explanations, I show them derivations. Tutoring is not only a skill of mine, but a passion.

I've spent a great deal of time living and traveling outside of the USA, mostly throughout Latin America. I believe learning new languages can open so many doors and teach you so much about other people, places, cultures - and more about yourself! I am passionate about helping others learn a new language and have spent a significant amount of time dedicated to education. I've lived and studied in Uruguay, Mexico, and Chile and I received my BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college I taught and worked in the education realm in both Peru and Mexico City. Most recently, I've spent my time in the US working for educational nonprofits like Teach For America and the KIPP charter network. I love teaching and learning - I believe everyone has their own learning style and am always happy to get innovative and find new learning techniques to ensure you're getting the most from your learning experience. Outside of teaching, I own my own small business which allows me to travel to Mexico a few times a year. I also love being outside hiking with my family and pup!

I got my Computer Science degree in China and my Master of Business Administration in Digital Technology in Canada. My tutoring experiences started when my first child went to school 11 years ago. I have been tutoring math and Chinese to students from first grade through twelth grade. I started teaching Chinese to adults two years ago.My favorite math subjects are Algebra and Geometry; I consider these to be two of the most important subjects. I like S. Gudder's quote "The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple." I try to make math easy for my students; I break down complicated problems, teach students "short cuts," focus on basic knowledge, and make sure students' grades improve.I like teaching Chinese, my mother tongue. At the same time I bring my students absolute non-accent Mandarin speaking and the most educated high-level language. I always share my deep understanding of the culture to my students. Chinese characters are hieroglyphic, which I find fun to learn.I like reading and traveling. China, Canada and USA are all my beloved hometowns. China is where I was born, went to school and had a career as a computer business owner. I am a Canadian citizen. I will permanently live in USA for rest of my life.

I am currently a freshman majoring in International Relations and Global Studies at University of Texas at Austin and a graduate of Singapore American School. I learned French after attending a local school in France, and in my sophomore year, I received a 5 on AP French. For Chinese, I completed the highest level of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test). Additionally, as a member of both Chinese Honor Society and French Honor Society, I have tutored high school and middle school students in both languages. While I mainly tutor French and Chinese, Im also interested in tutoring for AP Capstone (AP Seminar and AP Research). For my AP Research paper, I studied linguistic relativity, which is the idea that language affects thought. Whether it be tutoring languages or research, I believe that it is most important to have the students goal in mind. In my free time, I like to draw and run.

I am a hardworking and enthusiastic individual with 10 years' experience in teaching English. I currently hold a B.ED in Language and Literacy and a Masters in Educational Administration. I believe that every child can achieve success through appropriate guidance, the implementation of innovative and creative techniques and support.
