No two clients are the same. My priority as a tutor is to get a sense of each person I'm working with as an individual; I focus on the client's specific strengths, learning styles, and areas desiring improvement, and tailor my teaching approach accordingly. It is in this way that I ensure that the client is heard, comfortable, and getting the most out of our sessions. With 1) ten years of writing experience at the college, graduate, and professional levels, and 2) a practiced background in teaching undergraduate university courses, I look forward to meeting all of your expectations of a superb tutor.A little more about me: In 2009, I earned my BA with honors at a Liberal Arts institution. Currently, I am a PhD Candidate working on my dissertation. When I am not writing in an academic capacity, I enjoy creating poetry and short stories, exploring and playing music, and, above all, helping students.I am excited to meet you, and to work with you to enhance your writing and academic abilities.

Conversational French Tutor • +5 Subjects
I have a Ph.D. in French literature from the University of Kansas. I also spent an academic year in Strasbourg and a summer in Paris. French is my most enduring passion. I was an Instructor of French at the University level for over 20 years, both as a T.A. and Fixed-Term Assistant Professor. I always researched new ways of engaging students, from creating new games to incorporating culture in language lessons. My favorite teaching experience was tutoring students one-on-one. During these sessions, I learned more candidly the students' needs and was inspired to come up with new ways of explaining and practicing concepts. I was grateful to my students who sought help during office appointments, because my teaching improved in response to their questions. I believe one-on-one interaction is one of the most effective ways to learn a subject, because the learning is active: the student is engaged and the feedback is immediate. In addition to French, I have a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas. I enjoy very much reading literature and I write notes on a regular basis. I often revise my writing and pay attention to detail. I am interested in the nuances of language and am careful with standard grammar. I would enjoy tutoring students in English to help them acquire the tools to edit their own writing for improved clarity and expression. Finally, I also have three years of experience tutoring Algebra as an undergraduate student through the Kansas Algebra Program (for 25 hours a week), and I taught Calculus as a T.A. for a year and a half while studying math at the M.A. level. I want to be a lifelong learner and tutoring is my way of sharing my passion for learning with others.

I graduated summa cum laude from Susquehanna University with two Bachelor of Arts degrees - one in Creative Writing and another in Religious Studies. While in college, I served as Student Government President, Slam Poetry Club President, received all-conference softball honors, and was selected as the Outstanding Woman of the Year for my graduating class.I then spent two years teaching Reading, Remedial English, Religious Studies, History, and Service Learning at a private middle school in Massachusetts. I also ran the school's Slam Poetry Club, and coached both softball and volleyball. While teaching full-time in Massachusetts, I earned my Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification from the Boston Language Institute.I then moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where I spent two years teaching ESL to students from grade one to grade twelve. In addition to this, I worked as a private home teacher for two young learners. In my free time, I was a volunteer CrossFit kids coach.I am now in the final months of my MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen's University Belfast. While living in Belfast, I have volunteer facilitated creative writing workshops for young people, served as a youth mentor at a local community centre, worked as a Reading Mentor for youth in foster care, and run the social media channels for my university's Humanities department. My tutoring style revolves around building a student's confidence in their abilities, regardless of the subject matter. I make every effort to build rapport with my students in order to better understand their strengths, weaknesses, and goals. I also wholeheartedly believe that every interaction is a chance for further education, and I strive to cultivate curiosity in my students.

I am a graduate of UMASS Amherst and have a degree in Kinesiology. As a second degree black belt in Karate and an aspiring novelist, I combine a strong work ethic, unflinching morality and loyalty with the creative aspects of freelance tutoring. I treat every assignment, test prep and student I work with as intensely as the last. Just as I will one day best my opponents and claim the title of the greatest Karate practitioner who's ever lived, I will fight tooth and nail to develop and share my tutoring prowess with the world!I am a total nerd, but love to experience the world and it's inhabitants in a very profound and involved way. My strongest subjects are exercise science, nutrition, physical therapy, geography, psychology, writing of any kind, and history. I am a quick learner, however, and am always willing to test and educate myself in preparation for tutoring others. Finally, I possess addictions to travel, exercise and discovery. I detest laziness and want everything I create and experience to be the most magnificent it can possibly be. This is shown, at times, subtly or boisterously in the thriller I've been writing for three years. My self-prescribed deadline for the book is August 31st 2020.

I am currently a full-time mathematics professor at a community college, where I teach both online and on-ground classes. Before this position, I worked as a graduate teaching assistant and then a visiting instructor at Michigan State University. I even taught high school mathematics for a year prior to that. When I am teaching or tutoring a student, I always try to abide by the motto: "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." This motto has helped me focus on being a good listener, which I believe has made me a very effective instructor/tutor. When a student says that he/she does not understand a concept, I will often ask him/her a couple follow-up questions in an effort to identify the root cause of his/her misconception. Then the student and I can go to work on clearing up this misconception. In general, my goal is to help students first understand WHY certain mathematical principles work, because then it will be easier for them to learn HOW to apply them appropriately.

Conversational Spanish Tutor • +18 Subjects
I am a graduate of Wabash College, a small school in Indiana. I obtained my Bachelors degree in Spanish and Education. I returned to Illinois and have been working as a teacher since 2017 in a bilingual setting. Recently I have just finished my Masters degree at Saint Xavier University. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about the Spanish language. My experience covers a large range of age groups and curriculum, but have the most experience with elementary/middle school subjects. As a teacher, I have learned there is no student left behind and every student can learn. Not everyone learns the same, but they all can learn. As a teacher and tutor, I believe it is very important to get to know who your student(s) are so you can work together towards a common goal. While it is important to learn, having fun while learning is also a large part of my philosophy as my belief is the experience will have a greater impact on my students if they can have fun while learning . I enjoy watching movies, spending time with family, friends, and sports, especially hockey.
