  • I am a professional tutor specializing in essay writing on all subjects, creative writing, grammar and reading comprehension.
  • I am also a professional editor and dramaturg, working with professional authors to help them refine and deepen their manuscripts.

About Me

I am currently on the faculty of a major university's graduate program in Writing, and have previously been on the faculty of Purchase College, SUNY in the BFA writing program and at the New School in their MFA writing program. I have a wide-ranging and very active curiosity! I'm an information sponge. One of my favorite parts of being a writing tutor is learning about my clients' subjects. I have had clients hire me to help them write essays on everything from midwifery to international conflict zones and world orders and have loved the knowledge I have gained along the way. In this way, I learn as much from my clients as they do from me. In addition to going over the basics of good essay writing like organization, development of ideas, sentence and paragraph structure, use of vocabulary, etc., I also employ a system of "neutral questions" to help writers go deeper into their own ideas, synthesize their thoughts, and locate their own areas of deepest engagement. I find that this technique almost always leads to bigger, more complex ideas, more passionate rhetorical argument and more thorough work -- in short, better writing. I then work with you to structure your writing most effectively. Because my focus is on helping you go deeper into your own ideas and helping you develop and organize your thoughts and writing, there is no subject we can't create great writing on together. I am a graduate of The Dalton School and Wesleyan University, and have tutored and worked in the Writing Workshop of both institutions. My academic writing has won the GLAAD Prize, a nationally recognized award for scholarship. I'm also a theater artist and have won the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. I enjoy culture of all kinds -- music, movies, books, magazines, online content, etc. I look forward to helping you with all of your verbal, reading and writing needs.
