I'm an engineer with tutoring experience ready to help students of all ages in a variety of math subjects, as well as with standardized testing needs. Being an engineer means that I'm a problem-solver, and that I need to be able to adapt to a variety of situations. I apply that skill to my tutoring: every student is different, and I adapt my teaching methods to those differences.

I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. I earned my Bachelors degree in Letters with a focus on the Classics, and am in the midst of applying for graduate programs in the field of Comparative Mythology. While attending university, I was continually leading study groups and providing writing and editing help for my peers. My education before college was rather unorthodox, in that I was homeschooled by my mother, who brought in students who needed more individual attention than was being provided for them in public or even private school. Having been educated in such an atmosphere through grade 12 has blessed me both with the experience of having watched quality tutoring occur every day and of tutoring others from a very young age. I have always found immense joy in tutoring. Helping others learn is a wildly rewarding pursuit. I believe that tutoring is essential because every individual learns differently - every brain moves in intricate and astounding ways - and trying to educate every student in the same manner can end in frustration and disappointment. My favorite subjects to tutor are Writing, Essay Editing, Reading Comprehension, and English, because I find these are the subjects which are easiest for me to connect with emotionally, and thereby elicit a response from a student and get them more interested and involved.

I am the only person who has earned a doctoral degree in the Bassoon. When I began teaching in schools, my first job was teaching Elementary Music and Gifted and Talented classes. I then taught fifth grade Social Studies and moved on to high school Biology and middle school Science. I have also been a professor of music at Oklahoma City University for over ten years. I'm certified to teach Math, Science, and Music, but I also have a passion for History, World Cultures, Study Skills, and Writing. I have been teaching private bassoon and oboe lessons for 20 years and feel very blessed to be both a professional performer and educator. My goal as a teacher is to empower my students to become lifelong learners and lovers of knowledge. I love to travel, and have been to all of the lower 48 states, as well as many different countries. I love sports, jogging, horseback riding, and cooking. I find it especially enjoyable to bring my adventures back to my students and encourage them to go make their own throughout their lives!

I love to help students gain the confidence they need to understand and succeed. There is a popular saying in Spanish, "Nadie nace aprendido" which translates to "No one is born knowing". We all have different styles of learning, and I aim to help you figure out what you need to achieve your academic goals.

I'm another life long learner. I strive to assist learning in social encounters. Growing up with a family of school teachers and public school professional development figures, I have developed an interest in tutoring, research, and writing. After tutoring for about two years with Upward Bound and years of part time work with the educational development organization ALCA, I am now researching and writing a book on online political discourse, and wish to work improving my ability to help others.

I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma currently applying to medical school for entrance into the fall class of 2017! Because I am only four classes away from earning my Bachelor's of Science in Biology at OU, I will only be taking two classes this fall, and finishing up with two classes in the spring. This gives me a lot of extra time time to tutor in academic areas that I enjoy! I also have extensive childcare experience and love tutoring elementary age students, as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Broken Arrow's 40 schools with expert tutors. Whether your student attends a school in the Broken Arrow Public Schools district or transfers between buildings, we can match them with a tutor who understands the local curriculum and academic expectations in our community.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 18.1:1 in Broken Arrow schools, many students benefit from personalized 1-on-1 instruction to fill gaps and accelerate learning. Tutors can focus entirely on your student's individual learning style, pace, and specific challenges—something that's difficult in a traditional classroom setting. This targeted support is especially valuable for students working toward proficiency in core subjects or preparing for standardized tests.

Your student's first session is a chance for the tutor to understand their current level, learning goals, and any specific challenges they're facing. The tutor will ask questions about what's working in the classroom and where they need extra support, then develop a personalized plan. Most students find the first session encouraging because they finally get one-on-one attention focused entirely on their needs.

Students in Broken Arrow seek tutoring across all core subjects, with particularly high demand for math and English language arts support. Many students also work with tutors to prepare for Oklahoma standardized assessments, ACT/SAT exams, and AP courses. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors in virtually any subject, from foundational skills to advanced coursework.

Tutors who work with Broken Arrow students are familiar with Oklahoma's academic standards and the specific expectations for each grade level and subject. They can target skill gaps that might prevent proficiency on state assessments and help students build confidence in areas where they're struggling. This localized knowledge ensures tutoring directly supports your student's success in their Broken Arrow classroom.

Varsity Tutors offers flexible pricing based on the subject, tutor expertise level, and frequency of sessions that works best for your student. We can discuss your budget and learning goals to find a plan that fits your family. Contact us for a personalized quote and to learn about any current promotions for Broken Arrow families.

Absolutely. Many Broken Arrow high school students work with tutors to prepare for the ACT and SAT, whether they're aiming to improve their overall score or focus on specific sections like math or reading. Tutors can help with test strategy, content review, and practice testing—all tailored to your student's starting point and target score. Personalized prep is often more effective than generic test prep courses because it addresses your student's specific weaknesses.

Getting started is simple: tell us about your student's needs, grade level, and the subjects they need help with. Varsity Tutors will match them with a qualified tutor who's a good fit for their learning style and goals. Once matched, you can schedule your first session at a time that works for your family, and your tutor will take it from there.
