I am a graduate of Harvard college. I received my degree in neuroscience while I also enjoyed having a minor in energy/environmental studies. Following my graduation, I have predominantly spent my time working with students, whether it be college prep, ACT tutoring, or even general academic assistance. When I am teaching, my favorite subjects are those that are STEM or STEM-adjacent. I find that subjects such as math or science aren't always taught best in large settings, so being able to sit down with a student who is struggling in those regards and help them understand the material fully is a really rewarding thing. I am a firm believer in the value of education and think that one-on-one instruction is one of the best modalities there is in terms of learning potential.

I am interested in becoming a tutor at varsity. At my university, I worked as a teaching assistant at the math lab. There I gained multi-cultural teaching experience. I assisted students with their work, helped professors and proctored classes. Working both as a TA and an RA gave me practical experience and a higher level of responsibility. I was also active on campus and a member of the math club. After graduating, I started teaching at universities and colleges. I have been employed for almost two years and have been teaching both developmental and undergraduate courses. Teaching students has been my greatest educational experience. It is both challenging and interesting to teach students from different ethnic and educational backgrounds. Teaching and tutoring mathematics has given me a much deeper knowledge of the theories and concepts that I have learned. Teaching these young individuals has taught me so much. Our daily interactions have been not only enjoyable but in some ways eye opening. Every student is a person with their own ideas and experiences. I want to enhance my experience by doing more tutoring both in-person and online. Doing this would be fulfilling and meaningful to me. Thank you for considering my application.
I am fluent in both Chinese and English. Since I grew up in China, I have a Chinese cultural background which I intend to incorporate into my lessons. I took the AP Chinese exam and am very familiar with the test. I have tutored the Chinese 4 class in my high school in the past few years and I am confident to tutor any high school level Chinese.
I am so excited to work with you or your student. I am a Stanford University graduate, where I majored in American Studies and minored in Creative Writing. I have worked in politics, education, and the medical field, and now I have my own business. I truly believe life is a never-ending journey of learning, and I hope to share that enthusiasm with my clients.
I'm a grad student at the University of Oklahoma in the School of Meteorology. I completed my Bachelors degrees in mathematics and geophysics at MIT in 2012. I then spent four years in the Navy as an instructor at Nuclear Power School, where I taught physics to sailors who were learning to operate nuclear power plants. I absolutely love teaching and love math and science. If you're looking for some help in those areas, I'd love the opportunity to assist you.
I am a 26 year old who obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 2017 and a Masters of Science in Medical Science in 2020. My masters research was in the field of immunology where I studied Bisphosphonate Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (BRONJ), however I have knowledge in a wide range of subject matters. I have lived and studied in a variety of places including Scotland, Germany, Cambodia, and Alaska, and bring a unique world view to tutoring. I am so passionate about making tutoring an accessible, non-intimidating, super effective, and fun experience for all of my students. I look forward to being a part of your educational journey!
I am also an academic life coach and advisor, as well as a graduate programs administrator. I love to write and have been published both under my own name and under a handful of other pen names. I regularly present to my local professional organizations on topics regarding student success, particularly at the graduate level.
I am excited to be working with Varsity Tutors. I currently teach middle and high school social studies at Bishop Dunne Catholic School in Dallas. I teach 8th Grade US History, Spanish 3, AP Microeconomics, and Economics. I also have experience tutoring middle school Math while in college.
I am a 4th year psychology PhD student and have taught introductory psychology and abnormal psychology courses at the college level. I am able to tutor in a range of subjects including Statistics, English, Science, Social Sciences (psychology is my favorite), and Math. I have experience working with students of all ages, including students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. I am also able to help with test prep for the SAT or GRE.
I am an undergrad student at Agnes Scott college, currently pursuing bachelors in neuroscience and biomedical engineering. I grew up in a STEM focused household, and though I've always been inclined in those fields I've also always loved making art in whatever way I can.
I'm an engineer with tutoring experience ready to help students of all ages in a variety of math subjects, as well as with standardized testing needs. Being an engineer means that I'm a problem-solver, and that I need to be able to adapt to a variety of situations. I apply that skill to my tutoring: every student is different, and I adapt my teaching methods to those differences.
I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. I earned my Bachelors degree in Letters with a focus on the Classics, and am in the midst of applying for graduate programs in the field of Comparative Mythology. While attending university, I was continually leading study groups and providing writing and editing help for my peers. My education before college was rather unorthodox, in that I was homeschooled by my mother, who brought in students who needed more individual attention than was being provided for them in public or even private school. Having been educated in such an atmosphere through grade 12 has blessed me both with the experience of having watched quality tutoring occur every day and of tutoring others from a very young age. I have always found immense joy in tutoring. Helping others learn is a wildly rewarding pursuit. I believe that tutoring is essential because every individual learns differently - every brain moves in intricate and astounding ways - and trying to educate every student in the same manner can end in frustration and disappointment. My favorite subjects to tutor are Writing, Essay Editing, Reading Comprehension, and English, because I find these are the subjects which are easiest for me to connect with emotionally, and thereby elicit a response from a student and get them more interested and involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Ponca City's 16 schools and 4 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Ponca City Public Schools district or one of the surrounding districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and can provide targeted support aligned with what they're learning in class.
Ponca City students typically seek help in math, English/language arts, and science—subjects that form the foundation for success in Oklahoma's standardized assessments. We also work with students preparing for the ACT, which is a key benchmark for college readiness in Oklahoma. Beyond core academics, many students benefit from tutoring in subjects like algebra, geometry, chemistry, and writing skills that directly support their grade-level and standardized testing success.
With Ponca City's average student-teacher ratio of 16.6:1, classroom teachers do their best to support all learners, but individual attention is limited. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows a tutor to focus entirely on your student's learning style, pace, and specific gaps—whether they're struggling with a concept or ready to accelerate. This targeted approach helps students catch up quickly or move ahead, filling gaps that can't always be addressed in a traditional classroom setting.
Tutors who work with Ponca City students are familiar with Oklahoma's academic standards and how they're taught across local districts. They can help students master specific skills required by the state—whether that's Oklahoma's math standards, literacy benchmarks, or science competencies—and prepare for assessments like the Oklahoma School Testing Program (OSTP). This localized understanding means tutoring is directly connected to what students need to succeed in their actual classes and on state-level evaluations.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning style, and specific challenges. They'll ask about what your student is working on in class, where they're struggling, and what goals matter most to your family. This personalized assessment helps the tutor create a focused plan for the weeks ahead, whether the goal is improving a grade, building confidence, or preparing for a test.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's specific needs. We offer flexible options so you can choose a tutoring plan that fits your family's budget and schedule. When you connect with Varsity Tutors, we can discuss your student's needs and provide transparent pricing information so you know exactly what to expect before getting started.
Many students show noticeable improvement within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring, especially in specific skills like math problem-solving or writing. Larger gains—like raising a grade or significantly improving test scores—often take 8-12 weeks of regular sessions, depending on the student's starting point and the complexity of the material. Consistency matters most, so students who commit to weekly sessions typically see faster, more measurable progress.
Getting started is simple: tell us about your student's grade level, the subject they need help with, and their specific challenges. Varsity Tutors will match them with a tutor who's a good fit, and you can schedule your first session at a time that works for your family. Most families can connect with a tutor and have their first session scheduled within a few days.
