I am a recent graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and am currently an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, where I am studying Economics. Since High School, I have been tutoring through school organizations like Peer Tutoring, where I became the head in my senior year, and also tutoring around public schools in Stamford, Connecticut, near where I live. I have also created a summer camp at Domus Stamford, where I taught Chemistry and Martial arts for two weeks to middle school and elementary school students. I have also coached my school's Chemistry Olympiad team, so I am comfortable with competition Chemistry as well. I have over three hundred hours of tutoring and teaching experience in subjects like Math, Chemistry, and English. Tutoring STEM subjects is always fun for my students and me, because it is always interesting to see the connections and logic behind concepts. I am a firm believer that education is not only a valuable, important resource for everyone, but that it should also be given in a way suitable for everyone. As such, I learn from the habits of my students and personalize my teachign style in a way that would best help them learn more. In my spare time, I like reading, walking my dog, and cooking.

Throughout the ages, the religious and philosophical leaders of the Far East considered teaching the noblest occupation-- one of true wisdom and selflessness. Having had the great fortune to experience the transformative power of wonderful teachers, I've come to agree with this viewpointI've found my calling in education. I haven't always known that teaching was the vocation for me. Even though I've always taught, on some level, as a T.A., a private tutor, a classroom teacher, or a friend, I tried different jobs in the private sector for several years. However, upon much introspectionmy own enlightenmentI realized that teaching is my true calling. I have a passion for teaching, which is unmatched by any other field. Why do I teach? I teach because I know that I will learn something new from each teaching experience, with every student, with every day, without exception, and because this path is one that I know is beneficial to others and to society as a whole. I teach, because I believe I can do it well. I approach the job with a balance of both diligence and patience, and confidence and humility, with extreme focus and an open mind. I am very patient, which is incredibly important, because learning takes time and involves challenges. When I teach I project a sense of confidence, because as a lifelong perfectionist, I really do my homework! Before each lesson, I make sure I am thoroughly prepared so that I can teach lucidly and coherently and know how to anticipate questions and readily answer them. My confidence helps establish my authority in the classroom. I also strive to make what I teach relevant to my students' lives by drawing on my experiences as a student and teacher. I strive to be an educator like my own favorite teachersa teacher who is passionate about and has profound knowledge of his specialty, who believes in the unparalleled importance of education, and who inspires his students with his devotion.

I love participating in learning with other people. This is why I have been a high school teacher for 20 years and why I am a tutor now. One of my major skills as a tutor is breaking down skills and concepts into small parts to identify exactly where someone is struggling. I can do this with organization and learning needs, too, not just math and English content. I am also versatile and flexible; I can work on all sorts of content and handle unknown problems. I can teach you how to do that, too. I also have a great deal of experience working with students with special needs. I have been trained in some workshops, but I have only experience, not a license, in this area.

I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.

I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.

I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. Some students need visual representations of numbers and systems to understand them, and others benefit more by understanding the concepts behind each formula. I prefer to tutor in math and physics, and especially with real world application problems. I hope to help students improve their standardized test scores and their understanding of the math and sciences so that they can achieve their academic goals!

I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use. As a tutor, I like to give a strong foundation to orient my student, and then gradually grant them more freedom and independence until they can feel themselves grasp the concept, pointing out pitfalls or common errors along the way; teachers who used these methods on me always left the most lasting impressions. Outside of my studies, I really enjoy listening to music, both old favorites and new interests, reading classics, and gaming/playing basketball with my friends.
