Six months ago I was reciting off the lyrics to the song "Thrift Shop" in front of a class of seven adult Muscovites struggling to learn English. I am a graduate of Wright State University. I received my Bachelor of Integrated Language Arts and my Master of Education. Throughout much of my program, I have had many opportunities to tutor students from a variety of different backgrounds. The vast bulk of my experience tutoring has been with middle and high school students in "at-risk" school districts and students who speak English as a second language in Dayton, Ohio. Ever since my days in the public school system, English class was the one place where I felt free to be myself and fully embrace what I was being taught. My wonderful instructors showed me that writing especially was a gateway to self-expression, and whenever I tutor students for writing, I try to teach the subject with all the opportunities in the world for the student to write about themselves and give them a platform to express what really matters to them. It's that chance to inject themselves into their studies that allows a student to form deeper connections with the subject. In my spare time, I'm an avid reader, a long-time player of table-top Role Playing Games, and a bicyclist.

I have loved math all my life and I took lots of it in school as I obtained my BS in Electrical Engineering Technology. I even attended math contests. Now I have the opportunity to help others with their math. I have been tutoring for more than nine years and I really enjoy it. I work with students in middle school, high school and college level math. My daytime job, for six plus years, was tutoring college students in math and electronics. I don't just give out the answers but I help the student with the methods to find the answers. I can help with algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, AP calculus, math I, II and III. I am also very good with computers and Microsoft Excel.

I received my Bachelors Degree in 2012 from Thomas Aquinas College, double majoring in philosophy and theology, with a minor in math. I then went on to receive my Master's of Science in Business Analysis in 2013 from Catholic University of America. Since graduation, I have worked for environmental non-profits, helping plant trees across the world, and for consulting firms, helping to mitigate risk in user processes and IT risk analysis. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, my personal favorites are history, literature, algebra, and philosophy. My approach is focused on two things: perspective and passion. I genuinely believe that learning is one of the greatest gifts society can give us today, and one of the best things we can pursue for ourselves. All knowledge is connected, and rather than approaching a subject as simply that subject by itself, everything we learn opens new doors for our minds, and into subjects we sometimes never knew about or never believed to be as intertwined. For example: is it simply coincidence that the studies of astronomy and philosophy tend to happen at the same time for early cultures? Or that early arithmetical and geometrical proofs were found to exist in natural formations? I find that once connections and insights like the previous occur with the learner, passion begins to grow, and education no longer becomes a requirement, but a self-employed pursuit. In my spare time, I love expanding my knowledge of different artists in many different genres, always looking for my new favorite. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, recreational reading, playing board games and video games, and watching NFL games with my dad.

I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at the University of Southern California and will continue onto medical school in the fall of 2015 at USC. I have also completed a portion of my studies at the University of Oxford in the UK. I have been tutoring for the last five years and specialize in a variety of subjects at the middle school, high school, and college level - from Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics to Psychology, English, and French. I enjoy helping students develop their study habits, time management skills, reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities at many levels. I truly believe that all students have the potential to excel academically, and it's my pleasure to help them discover the key to unlocking their success. My tutoring style varies depending on the subject and student, but my core philosophy is that tutoring has the greatest long-term effect when students develop a passion for learning and acquire the critical thinking abilities and study habits to last throughout a lifetime. In addition to academia, I spend time teaching health workshops in under-served areas of Los Angeles. I also enjoy running, yoga, and spending time outdoors.

I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, Health, and Society. I received a minor in Global Health. While at Cornell, I was a teaching assistant and also spent time tutoring young men for their GED exams and fellow students in Biology and Chemistry. I currently tutor various subjects, but feel most strongly about Biology. I also find that I enjoy tutoring for MCAT preparation, as I understand how difficult the process can be, and wish to help others in the way that my own MCAT tutor helped me.

I am a graduate student at the University of Chicago studying social services administration and clinical social work. I love being a student and I love working with students too. I have classroom teaching experience as well as one on one tutoring experience with students of a variety of ages and abilities. Subject areas that I am particularly suited to teach include: reading, writing, ACT, PSAT, social sciences, psychology, history, and elementary math. I believe that every student has strengths and can learn how to maximize those strengths and improve on their weaknesses. My teaching style is strengths based and highly collaborative, always beginning by identifying what the student does know and working together to set goals. I take a team approach with students so that we are both invested in generating problem solving strategies and practicing academic skills in order to reach the goals to which we are committed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many students find it challenging to connect business theory to real-world applications, especially when learning about finance, accounting, and market dynamics. Common pain points include understanding financial statements, grasping supply and demand relationships, and applying strategic planning frameworks to actual business scenarios. Personalized tutoring helps bridge this gap by using relevant examples and case studies tailored to a student's interests and learning pace, making abstract concepts concrete and memorable.

Business education varies widely—from introductory courses in high school to specialized programs like AP Business & Finance, IB Economics, and college-level courses in management, accounting, and entrepreneurship. Tutors working with Varsity Tutors understand these different standards and can target instruction to your specific curriculum, whether that's preparing for standardized assessments, mastering core business functions, or diving into advanced topics like corporate finance or business strategy.

In a classroom setting, business instruction follows a set curriculum at a fixed pace, which doesn't always match individual learning needs. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to identify specific gaps—whether that's financial analysis, communication skills, or problem-solving—and tailor explanations and practice to your learning style. This focused approach means you spend less time on concepts you already understand and more time mastering challenging material, leading to faster progress and deeper comprehension.

Students typically see improvements in several areas: stronger grades on exams and case study assignments, better understanding of core business concepts, and increased confidence in class discussions and presentations. For those preparing for standardized assessments like AP exams or professional certifications, tutoring often leads to higher scores. Beyond academics, students develop practical skills in financial analysis, decision-making, and business communication—abilities that directly transfer to internships, projects, and future career readiness.

Great business tutors combine subject expertise with the ability to make complex topics accessible. They understand different business disciplines—whether accounting, management, economics, or entrepreneurship—and can explain concepts in multiple ways until something clicks. The best tutors also draw on real-world examples, ask probing questions to deepen understanding, and adapt their teaching based on your progress. They help you not just memorize facts, but develop critical thinking skills essential for business success.

Yes. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who specialize in advanced business topics including financial statement analysis, valuation methods, strategic planning, corporate finance, and organizational behavior. Whether you're working through complex case studies, preparing for AP Business & Finance, or tackling college-level courses, tutors can break down sophisticated concepts into understandable pieces and help you apply analytical frameworks to real business problems.

Absolutely. Business success depends on strong communication, and many tutors incorporate this into their instruction. They can help you structure business presentations, develop compelling written arguments for case analyses, practice explaining financial concepts clearly, and build confidence in discussing business ideas. These soft skills are often overlooked in traditional classes but are critical for internships, group projects, and future professional success.
