I am a graduate of SUNY Purchase college with a BA in Creative Writing with a specialization in poetry. I am super passionate about writing whether creatively or academically. Two of my poems were published by a literary magazine in my Junior year of college. I also completed a 30 page poetry collection for my graduation assignment. I will be of great help with essay writing, creative writing (fiction or poetry), and any reading or literature assignments. I have tutored and worked with many students of all ages to help them improve their writing skills and coach them along the entire way! I have led creative writing workshops in the past, essay editing groups, and have been a teacher's assistant in three different schools. My favorite things outside of tutoring and teaching are cats, binge watching Law and Order episodes, and trying all different kinds of new coffees. I look so forward to working with you and helping you with everything I can!

I have a college degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Biology. I love to see students gain an understanding of the material through examples related to the world around us.I have had experience teaching as a substitute from 1st through 12th grade, including many assignments with students with developmental disabilities, where I was able to work with these students more on an individual basis. I have also taught many undergraduate laboratory classes in physics and biology. These courses provide a great opportunity to work one-on-one with students who need some extra help and to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the topic being examined.I believe that students gain a better understanding and appreciation for the material when they are led to the answer through questions and examples rather than just being told how to answer the question or perform the calculation. Although I have mostly taught at the college level, I have experience teaching students at all grade levels and enjoy helping students learn regardless of their current knowledge or ability in a particular subject.I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and helping them understand a subject, especially when they are having difficulties. I think many students who dislike school or a particular subject because they are not good at it or do not get it. The reason they are not good at it is likely because they have not spent the time or had the individual attention they need to be successful. I enjoy being able to spend the time to answer questions and ultimately help the student get to the answer on their own. When they can do this, they gain a much deeper appreciation for the thing they are studying. It is also great to see a student come to an understanding of the topic after they are given some information or strategies they did not have before.

Education has always been very important to me. Many subjects can be very difficult to learn and learning how to deal with the stress of that is something that I can understand. I believe in helping people not only in understanding the subject, but also learning study techniques, planning, organization and how to deal with stress. When you do not know a subject matter it becomes boring and you lose interest. When you know the subject matter it becomes interesting and fun. No one likes to watch Jeopardy when you do not know the answers. When you know the answers, you feel confident and are having fun.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many students struggle with translating what they see onto paper or canvas, especially when it comes to proportion, perspective, and shading. Others find it difficult to develop their personal artistic voice or overcome the fear of making mistakes, which can limit experimentation. Additionally, students often lack structured feedback on their work, making it hard to understand how to improve specific technical skills like color theory, composition, or rendering techniques. Personalized instruction helps address these challenges by providing targeted guidance tailored to each student's skill level and creative goals.
In a classroom, instruction typically follows a preset curriculum paced for the average student, leaving advanced learners unchallenged and struggling students behind. Personalized art tutoring adapts to your specific needs—whether you're learning fundamental drawing techniques, preparing for art school portfolio reviews, or developing advanced skills in a particular medium. Tutors can focus on the exact areas where you need improvement, provide immediate feedback on your work, and adjust their teaching approach based on what resonates with you. This individualized attention accelerates skill development and helps build confidence in your artistic abilities.
An effective art tutor combines strong technical skills in drawing, painting, design, or other mediums with the ability to communicate concepts clearly and inspire creativity. They should understand different learning styles and adjust their teaching methods accordingly—some students learn best through demonstration, while others benefit from guided practice with feedback. Great tutors also help students develop critical thinking about their own work, teaching them how to self-assess and problem-solve artistically rather than simply correcting mistakes. They maintain a supportive environment where experimentation is encouraged and mistakes are seen as valuable learning opportunities.
Art education varies by school and district, but typically includes foundational skills like drawing, color theory, and composition in elementary and middle school, with more specialized study in high school (such as AP Art & Design, which evaluates students on inquiry, making, and presenting). Tutors work with students to master grade-level standards while also addressing individual learning gaps. Whether a student is working toward a school-based project, preparing for an art elective, or developing skills beyond classroom requirements, tutors ensure instruction aligns with both academic expectations and personal artistic goals.
With consistent personalized instruction, students typically see measurable improvements in technical skills—such as better proportion and perspective accuracy, more sophisticated use of color and value, and stronger composition choices—within several weeks. You'll also develop greater confidence in your artistic decision-making and ability to critique and refine your own work. For students preparing for specific outcomes like high school art courses, portfolio reviews for art school, or standardized assessments, tutors can provide targeted preparation that directly supports those goals. Progress looks different for each student, but most experience both improved execution and a clearer sense of their artistic voice.
Yes. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who specialize in various mediums and approaches—whether you're interested in traditional drawing and painting, digital art, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, or other forms. Tutors can also help you develop skills across multiple mediums or focus deeply on one. When getting matched with a tutor, you can discuss your specific interests and any particular mediums or styles you want to explore, ensuring the instruction fits your artistic goals.
No. Tutors work with students at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced artists. If you're just starting out, a tutor will build foundational skills methodically—beginning with basic drawing techniques, understanding materials, and developing visual literacy. If you already have experience, tutors can help you refine your technique, explore new mediums, develop your artistic voice, or prepare for advanced study. The key is clearly communicating your current skill level and goals so you get matched with a tutor who can meet you where you are and help you progress.
