The student has an Algebra test tomorrow. We worked on a few practice problems with inequalities (she has to pay attention to which direction to shade!) and we did a little more practice with three system inequalities (no trouble at all there). Tomorrow she gets a study guide for a biology test next week. We will begin the study guide next.

The student has been working on the computer the last several days at school and said he had no homework as such. I had mom check the school website and he did indeed have 3 pages to complete for tomorrow. I encouraged him to check his assignments daily to make sure he does not miss an assignment. He missed one earlier this week and got a zero. He has a test upcoming on Unit 2, but the date is not listed. I took the Unit 2 review to copy and will plan to go over it on Monday when we have our next session. We worked on the homework and I introduced him to his new TI 84-Plus calculator. He seemed to have fun with it and it was a great visual aid to reinforce his understanding of quadratic equations and their reflection and translation. Excellent session.

The student has difficulty with exponents and needs to do a lot of practice problems in this area. I sent an email afterwards to let her know. We went over some absolute value problems as well and this is also an area of difficulty. There is also a slight misconception of greater than/less than equations. The student is trying very hard to understand and is making a determined effort.

The student has gotten better with multiplication and long division. We worked on the homework, and I gave him extra multiplication and division exercises. I taught him a trick for the products of 9, and he's doing very well with equations.

The student has her first test coming up so we spent the entire session reviewing concepts in preparation. We finished a group practice test that she had started in class, most of which she seemed comfortable tackling on her own. She has a strong understanding of absolute value, scientific notation, angles, domain, and range. She is still struggling with components of complex functions, including dividing fractions, simplification of cube and square roots, as well as negative numbers. She was obviously stressed about performing for her exam, and was quick to state 'I don't know,' before attempting to solve a problem. We did our best to identify ways to reduce the stress during exams by revisiting a challenging problem after completing another that is more comfortable. Test anxiety will be a continuous challenge, and may take time to overcome. We did end on a good note, so hopefully that motivates her to remain confident through her exam!
