I am working on using magnetic and flow fields to create advanced materials by directing the self-assembly process of nanoparticles . I have tutored students in Chemistry, Physics and Math all throughout undergraduate and graduate work. I truly enjoy breaking material down into its core components that allows the students to understand complicated information.

I have six semesters of undergraduate level general chemistry teaching experience at UW-Madison. During my time in graduate school I also tutored students in chemistry for a few hours a week. I enjoy tutoring organic and physical chemistry, but I am most passionate about general chemistry because it provides the foundation for thinking about chemical reactions between molecules; the knowledge of which all later chemistry subjects rely upon. In my experience teaching and tutoring, a mixture of conceptual discussions and problem solving has been most effective for helping struggling students. In addition, I have found that relating chemistry concepts and problems to topics that are familiar in our everyday lives is a great way to make sessions fun and interesting. Most of my college years were spent working in various laboratories dealing with bacteria, fungi, and viruses and using advanced microscopy techniques to visualize them. As an undergraduate, I was the recipient of a Teaching Excellence award for a Teaching Assistant position I held for a Microbiology Lab, which was an expected but great honor for me to receive. I have held two very different chemistry based jobs (one that I am currently in now) since graduation in which I test drinking water and foods for a vast array of microbial agents and chemical compounds that are dangerous to the public. Using my experience in both academics, research and in my career, I have been able to tie in real world problems and solutions to students I have taught and tutored, and hope I can do the same for you!
