For the past six years, I've worked as a private nanny and tutor for several families in the Cincinnati area. I have experience with kids ranging in age from 5 through 17. As expected when working with such a broad range of age groups, I've also covered a variety of subject matter, from elementary reading to AP biology.Fortunately, helping kids achieve their best in school afforded me the opportunity to pursue my own education. I graduated cum laude from University of Cincinnati in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Because of my background in the sciences, my favorite subjects to tutor are the life sciences, especially biology; however, I also have experience working with students in English and reading, both as general subjects and in preparation for the ACT.If there's one life lesson that my college career taught me, it's the importance of critical thinking not only for success in the classroom, but success in life beyond the classroom as well. I try to encourage the use of critical thinking and analytical skills in all of my tutoring sessions to challenge students to utilize the knowledge they already have to come up with answers they may be unsure about originally. This ensures that students fully comprehend the subject matter, so that they aren't just memorizing and regurgitating for a test. This style of teaching also allows me to really engage even the shyest of students, and most importantly, have fun! When I'm not teaching kids the importance of thinking outside the box, I really enjoy being active and working out. In high school, I played basketball and volleyball competitively, which carried over into a lifelong love of fitness and health. Somewhat contradictorily, I also love cooking (and eating), and will be participating in a recreational Culinary Certificate course at Cincinnati State in the fall. Not to be a total cliche, but my third favorite hobby is traveling. In college, I spent nine weeks backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. My next trip on the books is to Austin, Texas, to experience the Austin City Limits Music and Cultural Festival. If I'm not cooking at home, eating a strange food on a foreign continent, or trying to work off the calories from both those endeavors, you can usually find me hanging out at the dog park with my border collie.

I am a graduate of Boston University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Biology, and a Pre-Medical concentration. Given this, my academic knowledge is obviously eclectic. In the past few years following my education, I have discovered a passion for teaching and currently work as an Instructor for Seven Hills Foundation. I have a straight-forward teaching philosophy which applies to each student as an individual learner. This helps to identify and clarify misunderstandings in the process rather than stumbling over information. I am able to teach in English and Writing, as well as across most maths and sciences, including Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Biology, Statistics, Algebra, and Calculus. I strongly believe in lifelong learning, and try to practice that philosophy daily. My other passion is music, as I play guitar and piano. Otherwise, I enjoy spending time with friends and simple moments of relaxation.

I'm an NYU graduate with degrees in Politics and Spanish. The first time I tutored was in fifth grade, helping out first graders who had trouble reading. Since then, I've worked with people of all ages on various subjects. I specialize in Reading, Writing, English, and Spanish, but I also enjoy teaching History, SAT, and lower level Math and Science. As a lifelong reader and communicator, Spanish and English/Reading are my favorite topics; I love to share my passion for words with others and enable them to develop that same passion. My tutoring style is very personal; I endeavor to get to know my students as well as possible in order to make them feel comfortable and to determine how they learn best. In addition, I try to get the student to figure out how to work through a solution (with guidance), to help them develop the general processes necessary to succeed in their subject. In my leisure time, I enjoy reading, movies, listening to almost every kind of music, learning languages, soccer, baseball, travel, and trivia.

Hello! My name is Ms.Chris and I am excited about being partnered with you in this courageous journey that lies ahead of us!I find teaching is one of the highest of callings! And, in meeting my young scholars, it is my objective to meet each child right where they are at in their learning and to equip them with the tools and knowledge to go as far as their young minds may take them! My passion is to help students to see the true, powerful potential that lies within them.A little about me, I received my Bachelor's degree at Trinity Baptist College in 2004. All through college, I tutored elementary students. From there, I graduated and taught in the Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville Florida from 2004-2008. I was able to provide intervention strategies for my struggling students during this period and celebrated many successes! In 2008 I had to resign from my teaching career because of a serious illness that kept me out of my classroom and away from my students for far too many days at a time. Eventually, that illness took both my feet, legs, and knees. I am now a wheelchair-bound bilateral above-the-knee amputee. But, remember, even when things look difficult, never give up! My Spirit is very strong! I don't let challenges in my life hold me back nor should you! I have worked hard on learning how to manage my health and limitations. Now, I am ready and prepared to return to my love of teaching.!Varsity Tutors was an excellent fit for my unique situation. Know that I have a heart and genuine love for helping guide young learners, and I feel privileged just to be considered for the position.I can't wait to meet my future students!

I have tutored students in various academic subjects and in test prep since attending Haverford College. I have also gained experience working with students as a middle school teacher and as a mentor in an elementary school reading program. After teaching at the Washington Middle School for Girls in DC, I earned an Ed.M in Education Policy and Management at The Harvard Graduate School of Education and currently work as a project manager in education assessment. While I am no longer in a classroom during the day, I still enjoy helping students reach their maximum academic potential. As a tutor, I first focus on understanding a student's academic needs and then work with the student to ensure that he or she grasps an understanding of the particular subject. I stay patient and encouraging while using different examples to explain a concept and continuously check for understanding by asking the student questions.
