When it comes to tutoring, my philosophy is that learning should be fun, or at least as painless as possible. My background primarily involves helping liberal arts students experience math and science in a way that makes sense to them. In high school, I struggled with math and science classes and believed that I would never be good at them. After a break of several years, I'm currently in the middle of an undergraduate in Applied Mathematics. I was fortunate enough to have a paradigm shift in the way I perceived myself and the world around me and love getting to share the good news with others: people who prefer reading and making music and art can also do great in their other classes, especially when the math and science is presented the right way.In my free time I like to spin, knit, sew and translate Latin and Old English. I also enjoy comparing the folklore of various cultures, writing music and collecting trivia.

I received my masters of elementary education from the University of Minnesota in May 2021. My bachelor's degree, which I received a year prior, was in elementary education as well. I also have a minor in coaching which I use to coach a high school cheerleading team. Since graduation, I have been working in an elementary school as a premier substitute. I have substitute taught in all grade levels K-5, special education, and specials (gym, art, music). While working towards my master's I worked full time in a 4th grade class. The first half of my year was in an online setting and I feel very comfortable teaching online. I believe strongly in personalized learning and building relationships. Building a mutual respect between teacher and student is one of the first goals I aim to accomplish. Building a relationship is crucial for success because knowing my students means I know what they can do and I am able to use their strengths to help them learn. Following my undergrad, I was accepted to Teach For America and trained and taught as an early elementary education teacher in all content areas for four years (while also teaching elementary visual arts in the fourth year).
