Hello, my name is Kristina and I have been involved in tutoring for the past 9 years. I received my undergraduate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. There I studied both Biology and Spanish including participating in a study abroad program in Quito, Ecuador which allowed me to travel to the Amazon rainforest as well as the Galapagos Islands. I really enjoy traveling and also backpacked in Europe for 5 months after I graduated experiencing the rich history and meeting amazing and diverse people. I then moved out to the west coast to pursue my love of Marine Biology and earned a Master's degree in Marine Science from the University of Oregon. While in graduate school as well as studying oysters, the focus of my thesis research, I was also teaching hands-on Marine Science in a local elementary school.I then moved south to San Francisco where I had been working for three years working in informal science education. I love working with students and passing on my love and knowledge of Science and Spanish. I have been tutoring or teaching in both subjects since college and I am excited to continue to do so after moving back to Illinois! I especially enjoy tutoring because it allows a closer connection with the student than in a large classroom setting. I enjoy sharing my experience and enthusiasm with student while also helping them progress toward their academic goals. Outside of my love of Biology and Spanish I also love playing tennis, rock climbing, watching movies and TV and I have a new found enthusiasm for biking.

I attended Brigham Young University in Utah, where I majored in Economics and minored in Business Management. I was a wildland firefighter during the summers in college, but then decided to go to medical school, and I am currently a second year medical student at Tufts University. I was a tutor for fpur years at Brigham Young University, and I love helping people learn! I tutor Economics, Math and all the basic sciences. I really enjoy tutoring these subjects because my students and I work together to understand the principles underlying the problems, which helps us remember everything better and makes studying more enjoyable. My tutoring theory is that students either know the answer or know how to find it, and together we can make that happen. My wife and I spend our free time camping, cycling, running, reading and exploring New England, which we love!

Hi! My name is Karim, and I recently graduated from Emory University with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. I am currently applying to medical schools and hope to become a pediatrician. My hobbies and interests include: singing, spending time with friends when I can, astronomy, working out, staying tuned to scientific discoveries and healthcare reform, catching up on shows like The Daily Show, Dexter, and Big Bang Theory, and listening to music.I have several years worth of experience tutoring and mentoring children ages 5-11 in math, reading, and writing. However, I also have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring in subjects including general and organic chemistry, physics, biology, human physiology, calculus, microbiology, as well as general study skills. I have also helped my friends with college, medical, and dental school admissions essays. I am a very organized and goal-oriented individual who always tries to work as efficiently as possible. The catch phrase I've adopted from my 8th grade algebra teacher is "Work smarter, not harder." When learning concepts, I don't just try to memorize the material-though that is the basis of learning any material. But I always try to connect different concepts together to grasp the larger picture and really get a thorough understanding of the material, allowing me to reason through not only problems I've seen before, but also through ones I haven't. I apply the same philosophy when helping others. I often ask questions to grasp others' understanding of certain material and guide them with their thinking process using diagrams, hand gestures/models, and deductive reasoning. This way I help others to really form a concrete understanding of the material and formulate solutions on their own rather than me just telling them the answers. But of course, sometimes it takes some hints to help them get started, and I am always happy to provide them when I can =) I promise to do my very best to help you achieve your academic goals while also having fun through the learning process. I look forward to working with you!

I am a third year doctoral student, working towards my Doctor of Physical Therapy at NOVA Southeastern University. I am an alumni of University of South Florida, where I received a bachelor's in Health Sciences, and a minor in Public Health.I believe a good tutor provides more than just academic support. A tutor has the unique opportunity to enter a student's life at what can be a stressful or embarrassing point, and re-establish a sense of pride and achievement in their work. Tutoring can improve self-esteem and make a difference in the way your student sees their future. It is my passion to help students grow and achieve their goals. As a physical therapist, that means educating my patients about their health and wellness, and helping them move toward a healthy lifestyle. In my volunteer experience, it means mentoring high school students with the goal of developing life skills that benefit them in the future. Tutoring gives me another way to invest in the next generation, to help them realize their potential.I have experience in tutoring, with specialties in math and science. My vigorous coursework in both my undergraduate and graduate studies have prepared me for tutoring in a wide range of subjects. I am most qualified to tutor in math, science, and psychology. My favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra and Anatomy/Physiology.

I enjoy teaching and working with students of all levels (grammar school, high school, college, and graduate level). I like to meet each student with where they are at and to find out the challenges they're experiencing with the subject matter and how we can work together to help them to retain and understand the information.I am a doctor, and like to understand where each student is coming from and how I can best help them with their study skills. What I love about tutoring is seeing the students understand and grasp the material and do well on their tests. While in medical school, I tutored in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, clinical analysis and case review, embryology, and microbiology. I recently taught Physical Examination and Clinical Assessment classes at the University of Bridgeport tutored the medical students in various clinical classes. I feel the the academic experiences that I have been through as a student for so many years have given me such great insight as a student. All the years of education and of having been a student always gave me an opportunity to learn from my professors. Now that I am on the other side, I have a sense of empathy, respect, and also feel humbled by my experiences and certainly very able to communicate in a professional manner with my students. I have and hold my students to high expectations and will go above and beyond to help them understand the material and my objective is to make them feel empowered and aware that they are capable of performing satisfactory and independently. For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with students of all ages. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

My educational background includes a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in Physiology from Wright State University, and an extensive career in the fitness/yoga industry for 20 plus years, Teaching and tutoring Anatomy & Physiology as well as Biology has been a blessing to have an impact on students to pursue their educational and career goals. I also have experience working with students with ADHD and Asperger's. Varsity Tutors is THE best at providing professional tutoring for reaching student goals and dreams. 2020 has obviously changed the dynamics of students to prepare, assimilate, and retain information. Not only to meet weekly online assignments but also to prepare for upcoming exams and quizzes. My tutoring philosophy, "Begins with the end in mind" entails imagining how you will feel after completing your final exam and walking out of the room with so much knowledge and the grade you always wanted. The confidence gained from having a strong grasp of Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology will always carry over to a multitude of career paths. I hope you cross the Varsity Tutors' path!!

I am a Virginia native and familiar with the D.C. metro area. I am a graduate of the University of Chicago where I majored in Biology. My area of interest is Genetics, and I hope to eventually receive my PhD in Bioinformatics.I believe that learning is all about asking questions. The most important skill we can develop as students and people is to realize the things that we do not know and find ways to ask questions about them. Whatever these things are, they are most certainly different for everyone, and challenging them and tackling them head on is a sure fire way to grow intellectually. Being an effective questioner and an astute observer of the unknown is a life-long task, and through hard work and focus, I believe anyone can grow into a stronger thinker and a more effective student.I also think science is very fun, and the best way to improve in a subject that may be difficult is to find the parts of it which are enjoyable to you. I believe tutoring should be flexible to the needs of the student, and that being open to different approaches is a sure-fire way to find what works best for you.I thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you!

I am a physician, I received my Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Dominican College in New York and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. Following my undergraduate education I went on to attend medical school at Barry University School of Pediatric Medicine where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was named class valedictorian. While attending medical school in addition to my doctorate I also obtained a master's degree in biomedical science. Continuing my medical education I performed a three year surgical residency at a hospital in New Jersey.Throughout my academic career I have not only possessed a love of learning but of teaching as well. I was a tutor on staff at my medical school as well as a teaching assistant in several subjects including biochemistry, histology and anatomy. It was such a rewarding experience to help my fellow classmates excel in their classes and reach their personal goals.I am currently tutoring subjects related to the sciences including chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physiology. These are subjects that I am very passionate about and have loved learning since grade school, especially anatomy and physiology. My special interest in these subjects grew from a fascination of how the human body works and actually lead me into my medical career. In regards to my teaching philosophy and style, it is important that the student and I have an interactive experience. I am not interested in lecturing, I am a great listener and really want to personalize my approach to your individual needs while we work together. Throughout my academic career, I have developed many study techniques and methods. It is with great pleasure I wish to share my knowledge and help my students to achieve success and reach their goals and maybe have a little fun at the same time. In my spare time, I really enjoy playing pool, going to the movies, reading, and cooking.
